OUTNUMBERED MAN STABBED

Roanoke police found a 20-year-old man stabbed in the back in the 600 block of Naho Street Northwest late Thursday after he was jumped by a group of men.

The man was in Lansdowne public housing development at 2624 Salem Turnpike N.W. when he was attacked, police said. The man first was confronted by two attackers accusing him of talking to their girlfriends. Police found the man, wearing only his underwear, about 11:20 p.m.

He was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was in satisfactory condition Friday night, according to a nursing supervisor. No arrests had been made.

In other incidents:

A Yellow Cab driver was robbed at gunpoint about 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The driver was not injured.

Police said the driver was transporting a man she knew. At Westwood Boulevard Northwest, the man left the cab, went into an apartment and returned with two men. One of the men placed a handgun to the driver's right temple, demanding money and saying he would blow her brains out.

The driver gave the men an undisclosed amount of cash. The men fled in separate vehicles. No arrests have been made.

A can of deodorant helped a 20-year-old man avoid a robbery at knifepoint Thursday at a service station on East Campbell Avenue.

About 10:45 p.m., the man was riding his bicycle to work. He stopped at the service station to rest, and an older model car pulled up. The driver got out, pulled a switchblade knife and demanded money, police said.

The bicyclist took a can of deodorant from his book bag, sprayed the man in the face, then fled. No arrest had been made.
