Franklin County came back from a six-point halftime deficit, taking the opening kickoff in the second half and moving the ball 50 yards on two plays, both runs by Brandon Smith, including his second touchdown of the game. The Eagles (1-3) went ahead 14-13 before the Wildcats (4-0) started their drive.
The game-winning drive lasted 9:09 and took 18 plays, capped by a Jimmy Emoore 1-yard touchdown plunge. Franklin County had Rockbridge, the seventh-ranked team in Timesland, in three third-and-long situations, but each time quarterback Greg Stubblefield completed passes to pull the Wildcats closer.
Franklin County scored first in the second quarter, on a 15-yard touchdown scamper by Smith. He finished the night with both Eagles touchdowns, the other coming later in the third quarter.
Scoring twice in the final three minutes of the first half, Rockbridge took a six-point advantage into the locker room. The scoring came on the Camden brothers' efforts, the first being Mike Camden's fumble recovery in the end zone, then his brother John's 9-yard touchdown reception. John Camden would add another 9-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Stubblefield passed for 100 yards, leading the Wildcats with his 10-of-17 effort.
Smith was the main man for Franklin County, racking up 131 yards on 10 carries. In addition to his two touchdowns, another, a 38-yard touchdown scamper, was called back becaus of an Eagle penalty.
