RURAL RETREAT HANDED ITS FIRST LOSS 73-55

Northwood got off to a hot start and downed Rural Retreat 73-55 in a battle of the top two girls' basketball teams in the Hogoheegee District in Saltville on Thursday.

Northwood (8-1 overall, 8-0 in the district) was led by sophomore Jill Woodward, who connected for 29 points. Rural Retreat (8-1, 6-1), was paced by Christie Osborne with 19 points. A cold third quarter kept the Indians from starting a rally and avoiding their first loss.

Parry McCluer 73, Highland 27: At Monterey, Parry McCluer had little trouble with Highland in a Pioneer District game as Chrystal Humphries scored a game-high 19 supported by Avis Williams with 12 and Lindsey Coleman with 11. Parry McCluer is 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the district.
