A LITTLE CULTURE SHOCK IN CAMBRIDGE

``I can't believe I had such a hard time finding `drar' sheets,'' Theresa said to her roommate Daryn, after returning to the dorm.

`` `Drar' sheets? Must be a Roanoke phenomenon,'' Daryn said, in all seriousness.

After Theresa's explanation, Daryn replied, ``Oh, you mean Bounce!''

Theresa described the infamous Boston accent as having ``chunks of words missing in the middle. I caught the gist of what the officer was saying at the safety meeting, but it was like a foreign language.

``Yeah, I've heard Yankee spoken a lot.''

Theresa was hesitant to try unfamiliar food. A confessed pasta junkie, she consented to try pesto sauce on linguini. She delighted in telling her roommates about her new food experience. ``Oh, you'll have to try the hummus and ...'' Daryn said.

``Oh, great,'' Theresa moaned, ``you're gonna make me eat that weird [stuff], too.''
