Fairlawn Presbyterian Church on Peppers Ferry Boulevard near U.S. 11 will host a screening 1-3 p.m., and Blacksburg United Methodist Church at
Church and Lee Streets will have a screening 5-7 p.m.
Screenings will consist of a short educational program, a written self-test, and a confidential interview with a mental health professional. No diagnoses will be made, but referrals will be offered for further help.
Last year, more than 67,000 people participated in screenings at more than 2,000 sites across the country. Depression is thought to affect more than 17 million Americans each year.
