ALLEN, Hubert Troy, 96, of Pulaski, died Wednesday, October 4, 1995. Funeral Friday, 11 a.m., Thomas M. Seagle & Son Funeral Home.

AMOS, Elmer Ervin Sr., 65, of Salem, died Monday, October 2, 1995. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise. He is survived by his wife, Frances Vest Amos; his son and daughter-in-law, Elmer Ervin Jr. and Charlotte Amos; his daughter and son-in-law, Eric Ray and Sandra Otey; grandchildren, Crystal Arthur and Sherry Amos; his brothers, Carl Amos, Ernest Amos, Harold Amos and Timmy Amos; his sister, Shirley Muncy; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. Harry Miller with burial in the Amos Family Cemetery.

ARVESON, Marian H., 88, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, October 3, 1995, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born April 5, 1907, in DePere, Wis., to the late Daniel C. and Marian Helen Baldwin Jones. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Calvin Pynn and William H. Arveson; and one son, Richard David Pynn. She was a member of the DAR, PEO, and the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Worley, Decatur, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Susan Portwood, Parkersburg, W.Va., John, Joseph, David Worley all of Decatur, Ill., Paul Worley, St. Joseph, Ill., James Worley, Flower Mound, Texas, Nancy Guenther, Glenco, Ill., David Pynn, Riner, Laura and Jennifer Pynn, Floyd, and Sandra Parks, Harrisonburg; 18 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, October 6, at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the D. Cameron Murchison Jr. officiating. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home.

ASHBROOK, Keith, 18, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, October 2, 1995 as the result of an automobile accident. Keith attended Cave Spring High School and Franklin County High School and was employed by Earl Scheib Auto Painting Company. Surviving are his parents, Clay and Jo Ann Ashbrook; one brother, Danny Ashbrook, all of Rocky Mount; his maternal grandparents, Alton and Paula Ferguson, Roanoke County; his paternal grandmother, Hazel Ashbrook, Rocky Mount; his finance, Ashley Proffitt, Wirtz; also several other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, October 6, 1995 at Oakey's South Chapel with President John Walke and Elder Allen Carter officiating. BRAXTON, Gordon Jr., 71, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired security officer for the federal government. Survivors include his wife, Theopolis Braxton; one son, Ronald Braxton, both of Roanoke; one daughter, Kaye-Sandra L. Braxton, Fairfax; three grandchildren, DeWayne Mingo, Orlando, Fla., Jennifer Mingo, Fairfax and Shayne Ward, San Jose, Calif.; two great-grandchildren; one sister. Mary Whitlock, Jamaica, N.Y.; three aunts, Lucille Braxton, Roanoke, Irene Lloyd, N.Y., and Ethel Pitts, Richmond; a favorite cousin, Sinclair Burkes, Salem; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Salem. Dr. James A. Braxton will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. BREEDEN, John (""J.R.""), 57, of Buena Vista, died Monday, October 3, 1995 at his residence. He was a dedicated member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad and a member of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. A service of remembrance will be held Friday, October 6, 1995, 11 AM at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel.

COUNTS, Vada Victoria Taylor, 93, of Abingdon, died Wednesday, October 4, 1995, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, and was a member of Lindell Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Counts. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Cecil E. and Faye C. Counts, Salem; two daughters, Mrs. Charles B. (Vivian) Boardwine, Saltville, Mrs. Evelyn C. Henderson, Abingdon; five brothers, Stuart Taylor and Kyle Taylor, Abingdon, Clyde Taylor, Meadowview, Kenzie Taylor, Bristol, Tenn., Glen Taylor, Saltville; two sisters, Ocie Taylor and Pearl Stallard, Saltville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, and a close friend, Tommy Louthen. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Farris Funeral Chapel, with Eddie Craft and David Mumpower officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. CUSTER, Clyde Wesley, 75, of Catawba, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 1995, at Lewis-Gale Hospital after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Gowen Custer; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn C. Webb, Catawba; Wanda and Philip Keffer, New Castle, Cathy and J. Lee Wall, Blacksburg, Ruth and Steve O'Roark, Lawrenceville, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Dianna Custer, Salem, Michael and Anita Custer, Catawba; 12 grandchildren. She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Ann Tilson, Rebecca Jean Ellis, Lisa Carol Turley and Betty Lou Hutton, Marion; three sisters, Barbara Almony, Sylvia Mooney and Beatrice Marsteller, Maryland; four brothers, Delmar Powers, Tim Powers and Ray Powers, Maryland, and Wayne Powers, Wise, and nine grandchildren. JONES, Eric Lee (``NIKE""), 21, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 1995. He is survived by his mother, Deborah Jones; one brother, Jerome ""Doobie"" Jones; one sister, Lise A. Jones; four half sisters, Jennifer, Rosa, Brenda Ann, and LeiLani; three half brothers, Samuel, Cedric, and Moses; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor and family. LOCKARD, Alvie McKinley, 71, of Troutville, and formerly of Dublin, died Tuesday, October 3, 1995 in a local hospital. He was retired from State Farm Insurance Company and was formerly of the Virginia State Police. He was a member of the Bonsack Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II serving in India, and also active in many civic organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spotts J. Lockard and Dora Showalter Lockard of Salem. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie D. Lockard, Troutville; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marian Lockard; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Barry Hunter, all of Dublin; one brother, Woodrow J. Lockard, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Erin Hunter, Darrin Hunter, Amy Goodrich, Sarah Zastrow. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 1995 at 12 noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with Dr. Robert G. Moore officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. MABE, Roosevelt, 87, of Austinville, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 28, 1908, son of the late Ira David Mabe and Nancy Judith Smythers Mabe. Mr. Mabe was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Crowder Mabe and was a member of the Round Knob Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Larry Ewing, Roanoke; two sisters, Susie Smith and Nancy Frazier both of Austinville; grandson and his spouse, David and Eileen Allison; granddaughters and spouse, Anne Whitney and Andrew Smith, Lisa Gaye Allison; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Morgan Smith. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Mr. Curtis Graves officiating. Interment will be in Mabe Cemetery. RUNYON, Rex Raymond, 75, of Roanoke, died Thursday, September 28, 1995 in a local nursing home. Mr. Runyon was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ruth C. Runyon; two daughters, Patricia R. Broughman, Roanoke, and Sharon Yvonne Neel, Boones Mill; grandsons Samuel Edward Broughman, Jr., Roanoke, and Jon Ryan Neel, Boones Mill; granddaughter, Kara Ann Neel, Roanoke; great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Neel, Boones Mill; great-grandson, Jesse Wayne Neel, Roanoke; two brothers, Weston G. STONEMAN, Virgil K., 66, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, October 2, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a son of the late Rufus and Minnie Stoneman. He was a member of the law enforcement profession from 1950 until 1991, when he retired from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board as supervisor for Southwest Virginia. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ken Stoneman. Surviving are his wife, Alice W. Stoneman of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dickie and Ann Stoneman, South Boston, Michael and Rosemary Stoneman, Rocky Mount, Gary and Jan Stoneman, Bassett; a daughter and son-in-law, Tren da and Doug Robertson, Yorktown; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Dalton, Ivanhoe, Linda Kay Johnson, Westlake, Ohio, and two brothers, Dorvan Stoneman, Chesterfield, Donald Stoneman, Jonesborough, Tenn. WILSON, Judith McBride, 48, of Bedford, passed away Monday, October 2, 1995 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born October 26, 1946 in Bedford County, a daughter of Moorman Johnson McBride and Betty Jane Creech McBride. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon Women's College, and received her master's degree from Lynchburg College. She was a member of Kappa Delta, the National Education Association, Virginia Education Association, and was a guidance counselor at Staunton River High School, Moneta. In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by a daughter, Wendy Noelle Wilson, Radford; a son, Christopher Dale Wilson, Aretsia, New Mexico; a sister, Ann McBride, Fincastle; a brother, David McBride, Idaho. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 5, 1995 at 2 PM from the Updike Funeral Chapel.. Bedford, by the Rev. Christopher Fowler. Interment will foll ow in the Virginia Memorial Park.
