CRAIG ASKS STATE FOR HELP ON ROAD FUNDS

The Craig County Board of Supervisors have asked state legislators to help speed up the allocation of highway funds to rebuild a dangerous curve on

Virginia 311.

The board's action Monday followed a weekend accident at the curve that has gained modest notoriety in the county as "that curve on 311."

Located about 5 miles south of New Castle, the curve has been the site of numerous accidents.

County Administrator Stephen A. Carter said the unanimously approved resolution asks Del. C. Richard "Dick" Cranwell, and state Sen. Malfourd W. "Bo" Trumbo to urge the Virginia Department of Transportation to speed up funding for the road's improvement.

Carter said without legislative support, the county can expect to wait several years before funding is available.

In another highway matter, residents at the end of Virginia 691 asked to have a portion of the road that is not maintained by the state to be placed in the highway department's secondary road system.
