Pulaski County garbage

PULASKI - It's garbage as usual this Columbus Day according to the Pulaski County Public Service Authority. There will be no interruption of the garbage collection Monday. All trucks will operate on their regular schedule.

Kool Country broadcasts

CHRISTIANSBURG - Kool Country will be out and about in Christiansburg this weekend. Reed Lumber will host Levi Garrett and Kool Country on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The station will offer Kool Country prize packs, bumper stickers, balloons for the kids and a chance to win tickets to see Aaron Tippin in concert Sunday in Bristol, Tenn.

Later that evening, Garrett and Kool Country will be at Pizza Plus in Pearisburg from 4 to 6 p.m. Free Hot Air Balloon rides and more freebies from Kool Country will highlight this appearance.

Kool Country asks listeners to tune in to hear the baseball playoffs, league championships, World Series and the Ohio vs. Penn. State football game.

Auburn schools' open house

CHRISTIANSBURG - Parents of pupils at Auburn High and Middle School are invited to an open house, where they can learn about their children's' progress at school Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the school.

Demon Booster's Club

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Demon Booster's Club will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the boy's health room at Christiansburg High School. Individuals interested in supporting the sports programs at the high and middle schools are encouraged to attend.

Voter sign-up deadline near

CHRISTIANSBURG - There is still time to register to vote before the November elections. The last day to register is Tuesday. The last day for receiving applications for mail ballots is Nov. 2 and Nov. 4 is the last day for in-person absentee voting.

Following is a list of the times and locations for voter registration sites.

First National Bank, Riner, today, 3:30-5 p.m.

Montgomery County Courthouse, Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Blacksburg Area Library, Saturday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and Monday, 5-8 p.m.

Individuals can register to vote on Tuesday only at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Room 220, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Grange plans candidate forum

BLACKSBURG - Prices Fork Grange will host a forum for candidates for office of Montgomery County sheriff, treasurer, representative to state House of Delegates, Commissioner of Revenue, and commonwealth attorney on Tuesday at 7 p.m, Prices Fork Grange Hall. The public is invited to attend. Candidates will speak and answer questions.

Environmental group to meet

BLACKSBURG - The New River Valley Environmental Coalition public meeting is Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Virginia Tech Museum of Natural History, 428 N. Main St., Blacksburg.

Jim Schuler, Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates will address environmental issues and answer questions. The Republican candidate, Larry Linkous, will not participate.
