CAVALIERS RALLY TO DEFEAT PATRICK

Fieldale-Collinsville took advantage of Patrick County's poor fourth-quarter shooting and came back from a six-point third-quarter deficit to defeat the Cougars 59-56 on Thursday night in a Piedmont District girls' high school basketball game in Stuart.

T.J. Hayes keyed Fieldale-Collinsville's fourth quarter rally. She made several key put-backs on offensive rebounds. She finished with 10 points for the Cavaliers. Jennifer Whitt scored a game-high 21 points, making five 3-pointers. Yvonne Hall added 12 for the Cavaliers.

Amy Nelson led Patrick County with 13 points and Alison Brammer added 10 in the loss.

Martinsville 80, Gretna 48: Martinsville turned up the defensive pressure to ignite an offensive outburst as the Bulldogs outlasted Gretna for the Piedmont District victory in Gretna.

The Bulldogs (10-3, 8-2) were led by sophomore center Jamie Farrington, who poured in a game-high 23 points, had three steals, eight rebounds three steals and one assist. Tresita Holland chipped in 21 points, seven rebounds, three steals and six assists.

Christy Crews led the Hawks with 12 points.

Brookville 52, Liberty 40: Brookville outscored Liberty in every quarter as the Bees stayed undefeated in a Seminole District game in Lynchburg.

Brookville (11-0 overall, 11-0 district) was led by Kristie Fisher's 20 points and six steals. Lindsay Ferguson did her part, contributing 16 points, six steals, and five assists.

Catherine Saunders led Liberty (8-3, 8-3) with a dozen points, and Felicia Miller added 11. SueLynn Cowlbeck chipped in 10 points.

Bassett 57, Tunstall 36: The Bengals built 33-16 halftime lead and coasted to the easy Piedmont District victory over Tunstall in Bassett.

Freshman point guard Heather Miller, coming off a three-point outing on Tuesday night, led Bassett (6-6, 6-4) with 18 points. Jamie Hylton added 12 points, and Lynettia Johnson poured in 11.

Tunstall was led Stephanie Brumfield and Melissa Dixon, who each scored 10.

Lord Botetourt 78, Alleghany 31: Lord Botetourt opened the game with a 17-2 run and held poor-shooting Alleghany to single digits in the first half as the Cavaliers blasted the Mountaineers in a Blue Ridge District contest in Low Moor.

Lord Botetourt held a 43-8 halftime advantage. The Mountaineers were 12-of-84 from the floor and 3-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Sara Moore led the Cavaliers with a game-high 20 points. Sarah Hicks had 19. Aimee Bird chipped in 13, and Marsha Michalski added 10 for Lord Botetourt.

Nikki Brown led Alleghany with 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Bath County 61, James River 45: In Hot Springs, the Chargers rebounded from an early first-quarter deficit to defeat the Knights in a Pioneer District game.

Melanie Woods led Bath County (4-7, 3-2) with 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore center Katie Hardberger added 11 points and nine rebounds.

James River (2-9, 2-3) was led by Amy Sprinkle and Nakia Burrell, who each scored 12 points.
