ROANOKE - Bluefield College's Division of Adult and Continuing Education will hold information meetings on Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Free Memorial Library, Dublin, and on Nov. 14, in the Lewis Gale Foundation Building, Salem, to discuss the adult bachelor degree completion program in Organizational Management and Development.
People who have completed 54 transferrable college credit hours are eligible to enter the program. Students attend class one evening per week for 55 weeks. Classes begin in Dublin on Nov. 30, at the Governor's's School, and in the Roanoke Valley on Feb. 5, 1996. Classes will also begin in Blacksburg on March 25, 1996.

Former mayor to speak at Va. Tech
BLACKSBURG - Harvey B. Gantt, the two-time mayor of Charlotte, N.C., who lost to Jesse Helms in 1990 in a bid for a North Carolina Senate seat, will speak at Virginia Tech Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Gantt, an architect, will talk about "The Architect as Public Policy Leader." In speeches across the country, he has been saying that urban problems demand a more activist role from architects.
He will speak in Hancock Hall Auditorium at 5:30 p.m.

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Board of Supervisors of Montgomery County will make appointments to the Agricultural and Forestal District Advisory Committee and to the Office on Youth Advisory Board. Citizens Applicants must be registered voters and in good tax standing. Citizens applying for Agricultural and Forestal District Advisory Committee must own land within the county. Energy program seeks applicants
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Energy Assistance Program for Montgomery County will accept applications for fuel assistance Tuesday, Oct. 10, through Monday, Nov. 13, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Department of Social Services, 215 Roanoke St., Christiansburg.
The program will also accept applications for Crisis assistance Wednesday, Nov. 1, through Friday, March 15, 1996 or until funds are depleted.

Snowville historic homes tour Oct. 28
SNOWVILLE - The Montgomery County Museum will host a Historic Homes and Sites Tour in Snowville on Saturday, Oct. 28. The tour leaves the museum at 9 a.m. Stops include the McNeil home, Humility, the Masonic lodge, and the Christian Church. The cost is $12 and proceeds go to the museum.

Giles candidates at Oct. 26 forum
PEARISBURG - Candidates for Giles County Board of Supervisors will appear at a forum on environmental issues Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Pearisburg Community Center.
The forum, sponsored by Citizens Organized to Protect the Environment, will deal with sustainable development, proposed Interstate 73, Appalachian Power Co.'s proposed Wyoming-Cloverdale power line, the Wild and Scenic designation for the New River, scenic designation for county roads, and solid waste management.
Each candidate will give a three-minute presentation and then will answer questions from the audience.

Peacework plans trip to Mexico
BLACKSBURG - Peacework, a Blacksburg based organizational to further international development, will sponsor a trip to Ixmiquilpan, Mexico, from Dec. 28- Jan. 11. Volunteers will help with housing project and in cultural programs and discussions about economic, political, and social issues in Latin America. There will also be a two-day visit to Mexico City.
Peacework is seeking individuals over 18 with a strong interest in international development and commitment to service to participate. There is no Spanish language requirement.
The cost of the trip is $750, including airfare from Washington Greensboro, N.C.. Volunteers will stay at a community center. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m., at the Cooper House, 305 Washington St., Blacksburg.

Lucinda Roy to sign book
BLACKSBURG - Lucinda Roy signs her new award-winning book, "The Humming Birds," at University Bookstore Volume Two on Thursday, Oct. 19, noon-2 p.m.
Roy, a poet, is associate dean for curriculum, outreach and diversity in the College of Arts and Sciences at Virginia Tech and an associate professor of English. "The Humming Birds" won the 1994 Mountain Poetry Prize. She is also the author of "Wailing the Dead to Sleep."

Radford University announces scholarship
RADFORD - Radford University has announced a new scholarship for international students. The first endowed academic scholarship for international students was established through the Radford University Foundation Inc. in memory of Frank H. "Buddy" Martin by his wife and children. An additional scholarship in memory of Martin was established for student athletes.
