GEORGE WYTHE COOKS UP A WIN

Tabitha Cook scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as George Wythe held off a late surge by Castlewood for a 52-47 Hogoheegee District victory Monday night in Wytheville.

George Wythe outscored Castlewood 16-1 in the third quarter and led by as many as 12 points before Tasha Fields sank a 3-point goal at the end of the period to cut the lead to 42-32. Fields added two 3s in the fourth quarter as the Blue Devils cut their deficit to one, but the Maroons converted a couple of late turnovers to ice the victory.

Kelly Salyer scored 24 points for Castlewood.

Liberty 51, William Campbell 33: The Minettes (9-3, 9-3) used a 16-5 margin in the third quarter to break open a Seminole District game and went on to a victory over the Generals (4-8, 4-8) in Bedford.

Kellea Whorley led the way for Liberty, and Sue Cowlbeck added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Carroll County 78, Pocahontas 10: The Cavaliers (10-5) built a 36-point halftime lead and emptied the bench in an easy victory over the Indians (0-11) in Hillsville.

Angie Farmer led Carroll County with 13 points and India Easter added 11 points and 10 assists.

Fort Chiswell 69, Grayson County 44: Amy Coleman had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Pioneers rolled past the Blue Devils in a Mountain Empire District game in Fort Chiswell.

The Pioneers took a 38-22 halftime lead and never looked back.

Lindsey Carico score 20 points to lead Grayson County.

Galax 43, Graham 37: Erin Kyle had 16 points, and the Maroon Tide bolted to an early lead in notching a non-district victory in Graham.

Galax led 20-9 after the first quarter and held on despite being outscored in every quarter thereafter.

Graham got 20 points from Kristi Maupin

Northside 60, Covington 44: The Vikings overcame a sluggish first half to claim a non-district victory behind 12 points and 11 rebounds from Crystal Barrett.

Northside (7-6) outscored the Cougars 33-18 in the second half

JoAnn Helton led Covington with 19 points.
