IVANHOE MAN ARRESTED AFTER STANDOFF WITH POLICE

A 47-year-old Wythe County man was arrested Sunday night after a three-hour standoff with law enforcement authorities at his Ivanhoe mobile home.

Officers were called to the home, near the Wythe-Carroll county line, after Carlie Pearman allegedly threatened his wife and family.

Pearman refused to come out of the residence and, when Wythe County Sheriff Wayne Pike tried to talk to him, threatened the sheriff with a revolver, authorities said.

About 8:30 p.m. Sunday, while Pearman was on the telephone with someone in Wytheville, the Sheriff's Office's tactical squad hit the mobile home with a stun bomb and quickly took Pearman into custody.

He is charged with brandishing a firearm and threatening an officer.

Members of the state police negotiating team and Carroll County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest.
