Eric Rarus' goal at the 98:36 mark in the first overtime period broke a scoreless game and opened the floodgates for Radford as its stretched its winning streak to seven. Big South Conference scoring leader Ian Spooner led the Highlanders with two goals and an assist in the overtime periods.
Radford held the shooting advantage 25-12 and Greg Lea recorded six saves to Tech goalie Jon DeLong's five aiding the Highlanders.
Radford and Virginia Tech have played for the ``New River Rock'' since 1989, when a few Hokie players pulled an 89-pound rock from the New River to serve as the trophy for the local rivalry.

Marcia Capozzi's goal with three minutes left sealed the outcome as Randolph-Macon Woman's College downed Hollins 3-1 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer game in Sweet Briar.
Jean Hazelwood and Adrienne Wharton added goals for Randolph-Macon Woman's College.
Hollins (3-9, 0-7) got its only goal from Beth Coughlin.
Erin Timothy and Shannon Sayer scored two goals each as Ferrum shut out Mary Baldwin 8-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game in Staunton.
Susan Sautter added a goal and two assists and Jen Thomas had a goal and an assist for the Panthers (7-4). Mary Baldwin is 1-10.
The Virginia Tech women's soccer team absorbed its third consecutive defeat to a ranked team as it fell to No.11 William and Mary 5-0 in Williamsburg.
GOLF Hokies finish 8th in Tulsa
Virginia Tech finished eighth among 12 teams in the Ping/Tour Tulsa Invitational golf tournament in Tulsa, Okla.
The Hokies closed with a team score of 925 and moved past No.19 Kansas on the final day. Louisiana State fired a final-round 295 for an 881 total and a 20-shot victory over No.12 Tulsa. LSU's Brian Bateman won the individual title with a three-day score of 216.
Scorers for the Hokies were Sean Farrell with a 74-76-76-226, Robby Rasmussen 79-76-77-232, Curtis Deal 79-76-79-234, Chip Glover 86-73-79-238 and David Havens 85-80-75-240.
Farrell finished 11th individually.
Andrew Wagner earned medalist honors and led Giles to victory in the Three Rivers District golf tournament at Blacksburg Country Club.
Wagner shot a 77 and was the low man for the Spartans, who finished at 336 to beat second-place Radford by 43 strokes. The Bobcats, led by Eric Merkt's 83, also advanced to the Region C tournament Monday at Countryside.
