LORD BOTETOURT PULLS AWAY FROM NORTHSIDE

Sarah Hicks and Marisa Michalski came through in the fourth quarter Tuesday night as Lord Botetourt defeated Northside 55-44 in a Blue Ridge District game in Daleville.

Hicks scored eight of her 17 points and Michalski had half of her eight in the final period as the Cavaliers (14-0 overall, 3-0 district) broke open a one-point game.

Crystal Barrett scored a game-high 19 points for Northside (6-7, 1-2), which led briefly in the third period after trailing by 10 early.

Sara Moore added 12 points for Botetourt.

Glenvar 51, James River 37: In Buchanan, Erika Hale scored a game-high 30 points, becoming the Pioneer District's leading scorer, as the Highlanders (7-6, 5-0) rolled past the Knights (3-10, 2-2) and stayed undefeated in the district.

Hale's average rose to 18.6 points per game as she took the league's scoring lead from Covington's JoAnn Helton. Helton is averaging 18.4.

Amy Sprinkle and Heather Vines each scored 10 points to pace the Knights.

Parry McCluer 67, Craig County 27: In New Castle, the Fighting Blues dominated the Rockets in a Pioneer District contest. Parry McCluer raced to a 22-point halftime lead. In the second half, the Blues (8-4, 5-1) continued their sharpshooting by scoring 37 points while holding Craig County to 19.

The Parry McCluer trio of Avis Williams, Lindsey Coleman and Crystal Humphries combined for 48 points, Humphries leading the way with 17. Lindsey Coleman continued her impressive shooting, hitting three of her team's four 3-pointers. Clarrisa Johnson added 12 points for the Fighting Blues.

Laura Nelson led the way for the Rockets (0-10, 0-5) with nine points.
