BOBBITT ATTEMPTS TO MEND MARRIAGE

TRYING TO PATCH things up with Lorena, he showed up twice at her place of work to woo her, but was rejected.

John Wayne Bobbitt wants another whack at his marriage with Lorena.

But Lorena Bobbitt wants nothing to do with her former husband, who showed up twice Tuesday at the hair salon where she works and tried to reconcile with her. Lorena Bobbitt refused to see him, said her lawyer, Elden Sodowsky.

``Lorena is anxious to get this over with and move on to the next chapter in her life,'' Sodowsky said.

John Bobbitt showed up at Lorena Bobbitt's workplace the first time with candy and flowers. He came back a second time empty-handed.

``He came over here, and then he came back. Can you imagine the nerve?'' the Washington Post quoted one of her co-workers as saying.

An off-duty police officer ended up escorting Lorena Bobbitt to her car when she got off work, the newspaper said.

She declined comment Wednesday.

The couple gained international fame after Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband's penis in June 1993 and flung it from her car window as she fled their apartment in Prince William County. At her trial for malicious wounding, she tearfully described escalating emotional and physical abuse she said she suffered during their five-year marriage.

Lorena Bobbitt said she snapped after her husband came home drunk and raped her.

A jury found her innocent by reason of temporary insanity.

Lorena Bobbitt spent several weeks in a mental institution in 1994, and is still under court supervision. She has been working at the salon as a manicurist since February.

John Bobbitt was acquitted of sexually assaulting his wife in a separate trial.

Both Bobbitts filed divorce papers, but the case has languished. Recently, Lorena Bobbitt agreed to a property settlement, but John Bobbitt has not signed the document, Sodowsky said.
