National Commerce Bancorp. of Memphis, Tenn., parent company of NBC Banks operating inside Kroger stores, reported record third-quarter income of $12.7 million, an increase of 13.3 percent from $11.2 million reported a year earlier. Earnings were 51 cents per share, compared with 45 cents last year.
For the nine months, income totaled $35.8 million, an 11.4 percent increase from $32.2 last year. Per-share earnings rose from $1.29 to $1.42.
Chairman Thomas M. Garrott cited loan growth in both the commercial and consumer areas, noting loans increased by $285 million, or 18.5 percent, from a year ago. Also, nonperforming assets totaled $57,000 at the end of September, compared with $1.5 million a year earlier.
The bank has assets of $3.5 billion.

Reynolds Metals Co., Richmond aluminum maker with recycling operations in Roanoke, reported third-quarter net income of $112 million, or $1.56 per share, on sales of $1.85 billion, compared with year-earlier $62 million, or 86 cents per share, on sales of $1.61 billion. For the nine months, net income was $305 million, or $4.20 per share, on sales of $5.38 billion, compared with year-earlier $53 million, or 45 cents per share, on sales of $4.33 billion.
