CAVALIERS SUSTAIN PIEDMONT LEAD

Fieldale-Collinsville remained at the top of the Piedmont District with a 59-31 girls' high school victory at Gretna on Thursday night.

Yvonne Hall scored a game-high 20 for the Cavaliers (12-3 overall, 11-1 Piedmont District). T.J. Hayes grabbed nine rebounds.

Patrick County 57, Bassett 38: Amy Nelson scored 14 points and Allison Brammer 11 as Patrick County used a big second quarter to open a lead on the way to a Piedmont District victory at Stuart.

Bassett was paced by Heather Miller with a game-high 21 points and three 3-point field goals. Lynettia Johnson added 11 for the Bengals (6-7, 6-5 Piedmont District).

George Wythe 71, Holston 61: Freshman Tabitha Cook scored 14 points and hauled in 16 rebounds as George Wythe moved into a second-place tie in the Hogoheegee District with the win over Holston in Damascus.

Cook scored 12 points in the second half as the Maroons (9-4, 7-3) never trailed. Megan Johnson, Tonya Cregger and Lisa Garland each added 12 points.

Holston (2-11, 2-11) was led by Stacy Wright, who scored 16 points. Connie Surber added 14 and Ann Newman chipped in 13.

Glenvar 62, Covington 41: Erica Hale gunned in 27 points and the Highlanders took control early for a Pioneer District victory in Covington.

Hale, a forward, had 16 points by halftime as Glenvar (8-6, 6-0) forged a 35-15 lead.

Joann Helton led Covington (4-9, 1-4) with a team-high 19 points.
