BOWMAN, Uda Marshall, 86, of Willis, died Friday, October 13, 1995, in Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. Born on November 23, 1908, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence H. Marshall and Oder Quesenberry. She is survived by four brothers, Cullen Marshall, Willis, Carlin Marshall, Fries, Julian Marshall, Vinton, Journell Marshall, Roanoke; a sister, Libbie Semones, Radford, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 16, 1995, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, with Dr. James DeBoe officiating. CLARK, Lois Ann Lambert, 52, of Route 1, Wytheville, died Friday, October 13, 1995, at her residence. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Edward Clark, Wytheville; one son, Johnathan Daryl Garland Jr.; three sisters, Thelma Spangler and Wanda Jackson, Wytheville, Sandra Myers, Speedwell; three brothers, Herbert Truman Garland Jr., William Darrell Garland and Estel Duane Garland, Wytheville, and her mother, Oneda Neese Garland, Wytheville. CURTIS, Charles William Sr., 68, of Hardy, passed away Thursday, October 12, 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Belle Curtis. Suvivors include three sons, Raymond L. (Estelle T.) Curtis, Hardy, James M. Curtis, Burksville, and Charles W. FRANKLIN, Pauline R., 82, of Bent Mountain, died Thursday, October 12, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Benjamin Franklin. Mrs. Franklin was a retired registered nurse. Surviving are a daughter, Maureen Franklin, Atlanta; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Luther Barnes, Bent Mountain, and grandchildren, Melissa Barnes and Andrea Barnes. The remains have been moved from Oakey's South Chapel to the Moran Funeral Home in Hazleton, Pa., where arrangements are pending. GEORGE, George David Sr., 76, of Roanoke, died Saturday, October 14, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie M. George. He was a businessman in Roanoke for over 50 years. He was the owner of the Roma Restaurant and The Deli Shoppe, formerly George's Drive-In. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Adell George Shockley of Roanoke; three sons, Charles D. George and wife, Pat of Roanoke, George D. George Jr. and wife, Becky of Salem, James M. George and wife, Dana of Roanoke; six grandchildren; five brothers, Lewis George, Herbert George, James George all of Roanoke, Easter George and Sam George both of California; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Blanton of Roanoke. LINKOUS, Claude Douglas Sr., 90, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Saturday, October 14, 1995. He was a charter member of the Haymount United Methodist Church and employed for over 31 years with Sears and Roebuck in the Furniture Department as a Manager. He was owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Sanford, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Annie Catherine Pedigo Linkous; four sons, Claude (Douglas) Linkous Jr., Vine Grove, Ky., Eugene T. MATZUGA, Louis Valentine, 85, of Route 2, Goodview, formerly of Seaford, N.Y., died Saturday, October 14, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 14, 1910, a son of the late August Matzuga and Elizabeth Seidel Matzuga. He was retired after 43 years with New York Telephone and was a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Moneta. He is survived by his wife, Christina Heessel Matzuga; two sons, John Matzuga, Selden, N.Y., Robert Matzuga, Smithtown, N.Y.; one daughter, Christine Brodt, Goodview; six grandchildren. MOON, Callie Mae, 73, of Blacksburg, departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, October 12, 1995. NEICE, Hazel Martin, 81, of Peterstown, W.Va., died Thursday, October 12, 1995, at home. She was born February 3, 1914, at Bluff City, Va., and was the daughter of the late Noah A. and Belle Blair Martin. Mrs. Neice was of the Baptist Faith, was formerly employed by Hoechst-Celanese Corp. of Narrows, Va. and did private nursing for many years in the local area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Neice; three brothers, Clyde, Elmer and Bud Martin; three sisters, Goldie Fanning, Myrtle Radcliffe, and Katherine Martin. Surviving include one brother, Hobart D. Martin of Pearisburg, Va.; two sisters, Pearl M. Marshall of Pearisburg, Va., and Helen M. Wine of Burnsville, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews. OEWEL, Mary Thorn, 84, of Asbury Center at Birdmont and formerly of 780 South Fourth Street, Wytheville, died Saturday, October 14, 1995, in Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Wytheville, a daughter of the late Charles Gustaaf Oewel and Roberta Thorn Oewel. She was graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1934, and began her high school teaching career in the Petersburg and Richmond school systems. She later returned to Wytheville and taught in the Wythe County school system for several years. She also taught in the Pulaski and Culpeper school systems, and retired in 1972. Ms. Oewel was a member of Wytheville Presbyterian Church, Wilderness Road Chapter of the D.A.R, Wythe County Historical Society, Virginia Education Association and Virginia Retired Teachers Association. She served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, and as a pink lady at Wythe County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Oewel Moore, and a great-nephew, Ross Moore. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Oewel and Harold L. Harkins Sr., Kingsport, Tenn.; a brother, John (``Jack"") Oewel, Wytheville; five nephews; one niece; four great-nephews; two great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 16, 1995, at Wytheville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Wingard officiating. Interment will follow in the East End Cemetery. PORTER, Annie McGee, 97, of Wytheville, died Saturday morning, October 14, 1995, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was a resident of Asbury at Birdmont Retirement Center in Wytheville. She was born in Carroll County, Va. on March 6, 1908, the daughter of the late Sebastin McGee and Elizabeth Crowder McGee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. Porter. She was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church, Dublin, Va. Surviving include two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Jo) Sowers, Dublin, Mrs. Octavia Clark, Dublin; one brother, Leroy McGee, Colonial Heights; several stepchildren including one stepdaughter, June P. White, Dublin; niece, Evelyn H. Aust, Pulaski; two special great-nephews, Douglas E. Aust, High Point, N.C., Mark L. Aust, Winston-Salem, N.C. PRESTON, John E., (``Brother""), 53, of Troutville, passed away Friday, October 13, 1995, at Duke University Hospital. He was employed by AMP Inc., was a member of the Roanoke Moose Lodge, and Woodmen of the World Camp #66. He was predeceased by his father, Ed Preston, and a nephew, Michael Preston. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis A. Preston; sons, Brian E. Preston, Keith E. Preston, Roanoke; his mother, Kathleen Wallace Preston, New Castle; brother, Samuel (``Sonny"") Preston, Cincinnati; sister, Linda Hewett, Roanoke, and a number of nieces and nephews. PRUSAK, John, 73, of Troutville, passed away Saturday, October 14, 1995, at his residence. He was the owner of J. P. Tailoring Co., founder and lifetime member of American-European Family Association, and a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. He was the son of the late Stefan and Maria Taras Prusak, and is survived by his wife, Katherine Wowk Prusak; three sons, Russell Prusak, Roy Prusak, Steve Prusak; two grandsons, Roy Shannon Prusak, Russell Steven Prusak; sister-in-law, Anna Rogulski; nephew, Joe Rogulski; niece and family Maria R. and Steve and Olivia Shrader; stepmother, Anna Prusak; sister and brother-in-law, Stefa and Tadeusz Stepczynski; brother-in-law, Stephan Seta all of Poland; several nieces and nephews in Poland and Ukraine. REED, Essie T., 99, of Bent Mountain, died Friday, October 13, 1995. She was the widow of Elbe M. Reed, and was a member of Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Malvin and Ruth Reed, Homer and Aldene Reed, Bent Mountain; daughers and sons-in-law, Edna and Lewyn Oppenheim, Fairfax, Lois and Boyd Overstreet, Bent Mountain, Doris and John Toth, Rockledge, Fla., Lucille R. Lee, Alta Monte Springs, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter, and four sisters, Maggie Wimmer, Roanoke, Pauline Sowers, Syracuse, N.Y., Thorn Holt and Mildred Burnette, Bent Mountain. SNOW, Robert Norris, 77, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 13, 1995. He was a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway. Surviving are his wife, Anne Dale Snow; sons and daughter-in-law, Roscoe G. and Faye Snow, Patrick G. Snow, Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Sharon Bell, Roanoke; grandchildren, Rebecca Dawn Snow, Krista Anne Snow, Robert Glenn Snow, Roanoke, and a great-grandson, Robert Glenn Snow. STONE, Warren Kenneth, 82, of Ogden, Utah, died Wednesday, October 11, 1995, at home surrounded by loving family members. Our loving husband, father, and grandfather was born March 5, 1913, in a log cabin on Second Street in Ogden, Utah, a son of Chauncey Stone and Edna Estella Kent. The cabin was part of the old Bingham Fort. He was raised on his father's dairy farm and graduated from Ogden High in 1931. He married Clara Corina Stucki on December 4, 1940. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1941. He received BS and MS degrees from Utah State University and received his PhD in Food Technology from the University of Wisconsin. He was employed as a food chemist by the Army Quartermaster Corps in Chicago and for 24 years, was teaching and research professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University at Blacksburg, Virginia. While teaching, he received numerous research grants and was the author of more than 100 scientific papers. He was recognized for his outstanding research by being made a ``Fellow"" of both the American Institute of Chemists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He made his home in Blacksburg for 41 years. Since retirement in 1978, he lived in both Blacksburg and Ogden. He has been an active member of the LDS church and in 1957 served as the first branch president of the Radford Branch. He was also an active member of the Blacksburg Lion's Club for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, Bernell K. Stone, Provo, Utah; son, Vernon Kent Stone of Austin, Texas; daughter, Anna Keogh of Casper, Wyom.; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, 1995 at the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, Utah.

TRINKLE, James Lewis, 66, of Roanoke, died Friday evening, October 13, 1995, while attending his 45th reunion at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville. He had been President of C. W. Francis and Son, Inc. since 1966. He was born April 2, 1929, to the late Governor of Virginia, E. Lee Trinkle and Helen Ball Sexton Trinkle. He was graduated from Jefferson High School in 1946, Hampden-Sydney College in 1950 and the University of Virginia Law School in 1953. Mr. Trinkle was an Eagle Scout and President of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia. He was very active in civic, community and church affairs, including member and President of Downtown Roanoke Inc., and fund-raising campaign director, Chairman and President of United Way of Roanoke Valley. He was a member of the Boards of Directors of the Roanoke Symphony, Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors, Central YMCA, Roanoke Civic Center Project, Junior League Advisory Board, American Cancer Society, Roanoke Historical Society and Colonial American National Bank (Crestar Bank). He was Chairman of Peoples Federal Savings and Loan (Charter Federal), President of the Merchants Association of the Roanoke Valley and President of the Roanoke Fine Arts Center (Art Museum of Western Virginia). Two things which were of special importance to him were Hampden-Sydney College, where he served on the Board of Trustees from 1967 to the present, and the University of Virginia, where he twice was appointed to the Board of Visitors (1982-1990). He took special pride in receiving the Ernest H. Ern Award at UVA in 1989 for his work toward advancing the initiatives, programs and goals of the Student Council to provide more effective teaching by increasing student-professor contact. Surviving are his wife, Muriel King Trinkle; sons, James L. Trinkle Jr., William F. Trinkle, David B. Trinkle M.D.; daughter, Ann Bondurant Trinkle; stepson, Henry Scholz IV; stepdaughters and their husbands, Courtney and Robert Black, Lesia and Steve Wall, Ardis and Mark Merritt; grandchildren, Catie, Clay and Ella Trinkle; stepgrandchildren, Laura and Kehler Black, Mark and Catherine Merritt; brothers and sister-in-law, E. Lee Trinkle Jr., William S. and Virginia Trinkle; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Sue and William Stroud. Also surviving are his former wife, Betty Francis Trinkle Freeman, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Second Presbyterian Church at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 16, 1995, with the Rev. Dr. William R. Klein officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Downtown Chapel. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Trinkle Professorship at Hampden-Sydney College or to the Alumni Association at the University of Virginia.

TUGGLE, Janet Copenhaver, 70, of De Soto, Texas, formerly of Crockett, Va., died Thursday, October 12, 1995, in Dallas, Texas. She was a graduate of V.P.I. and was employed for several years as a dietician. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Mac Tuggle. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ron Davis, De Soto, Texas; grandson, Bradley McLean Davis, De Soto, Texas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lovetta and Thomas H. Newberry, Chattanooga, Tenn., Joan and Mike Newman, Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Gerald Copenhaver, Max Meadows; aunts, Verna Ager, Elsie Cassell both of Wytheville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elton and Earl Rice, Versailles, Ky.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Ho me conducted by the Rev. Rance Edwards. The interment will be in the Kings Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
