CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Atkins anniversary

Richard E. Atkins and Helen L. Proffit were married September 17, 1945, by James Dickerson in Floyd, Virginia. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Big Spring Baptist Church in Elliston on September 16, 1995.

They have two children, both of Elliston. The celebration was hosted by their children, Shirley L. Hartman and her husband, Frank; Richard E. Atkins, Jr., and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Debbie LaFon, Tommey Atkins and Melissa M. Atkins.

Mr. Atkins is retired from Sheet Metal Local #119 and Mrs. Atkins was a sales person and is a housewife. The couple resides in Elliston, Virginia.

\ Goin anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry T. Goin of Salem celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, October 5, 1995. A dinner hosted by their sons was held at Coach & Four Restaurant on Friday evening and on Sunday afternoon a reception honoring them was held at Melrose Baptist church. The couple have three sons, Jerry of Houston, Texas, Clay and wife, Mary, of Bedford County, Warren and wife, Judy, of Salem. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. The couple was married October 5, 1945 in Buckingham County, Va. She is the former Jackie Gunter and is retired from Tultex. He is re tired from the Salem VA Medical Center.

\ Riley anniversary

Lyle and Luevenie Riley celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with a Dinner Party at their home on October 14, 1995. It was hosted by their daughter, Judy. The couple was married on October 12, 1935, in Botetourt County by Dr. George Braxton Taylor. Mrs. Riley, the former Luevenie Gusler, is retired from Old Dominion Candies. Mr. Riley is retired from Burlington Mills. They have a daughter, Judy Sink of Roanoke; 3 grandsons; and 3 great-granddaughters. The Riley's are charter members of Hollins Road Baptist Church.

\ Williams anniversary

Florence and Houston Williams celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows on October 14, 1995 at Mt. Pass Baptist Church, Salem, Va., with a reception following.

The couple were married on October 17, 1945 in Salem, Va. They have seven children, 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
