TEENS CHARGED IN MOTHER'S DEATH

Authorities have charged a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old friend with murder in the fatal shooting of the younger girl's mother.

Both girls also were charged with using a gun in a felony in the death of the 38-year-old woman, Chesterfield police said Sunday. The girls' names were not released because they are under 18.

Maj. Dennis McDonald said the shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. Friday in the Chesterfield County home of a man whose name has not been released. McDonald said there apparently was an argument between the woman and the girls earlier in the evening.

The woman was shot with a handgun recovered at the scene and died later at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, police said.
