Parent Child Seminar

The Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley will host its 44th annual Parent Child Seminar on Oct. 23 and 24 at the Jefferson Center. University of Virginia professor William M. Harris will give the keynote address, ``Children of Violence: The Violence of Children,'' on Monday. The keynote address is free, but there is a $7 fee for the five remaining sessions. Awareness film

The Women's Center at Virginia Tech will show ``Defending Our Lives'' today at noon as part of the Sexual Awareness Month Film Series. The film will look at women imprisoned for killing their abusive partners and examine how the criminal justice system failed the women. The event will be held at the Center in Price House, on the Tech campus. Admission is free. Call 231-7806.

Ethics lecture

Dr. Donald Nuechterlein will be the guest speaker in Roanoke College's Convocation Series on Oct. 26 at 11:20 a.m. in the Sutton Student Center Ballroom. His lecture is titled ``Can Foreign Policy Be Ethical?'' Admission is free. For more information, call 375-2282.

The value of truth

Cora Diamond, William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Philosophy at the University of Virginia, will speak on the value of truth at Hollins College on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Gordh Room. The lecture, titled ``Truth: Defenders, Debunkers, Despisers,'' is free. For more information, call 362-6451.

Science exhibit

The Science Museum of Western Virginia has a new exhibit, ``Science Circus,'' which runs through Dec. 31. The interactive show has more than 40 exhibits, including a laser radio and optical illusions. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 3-12. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 342-5710.
