SO?!!

It's not too late to pull out your pencils and markers and begin work on your entry for NewsFun's annual Halloween art contest. You have until Oct. 22 at midnight to come up with an original, color drawing of a Halloween party.

NewsFun will throw a party for the class of the winner in each age group. And, the winning drawings will be published in the Oct. 30 edition of NewsFun.

Here's what to do: Submit a color drawing of a Halloween party on plain white paper. Include your name, grade, school, school telephone number, home telephone number and address on the back of your entry. Mail your entry to NewsFun's Halloween Art Contest, The Roanoke Times, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke, Va. 24010-2491. All entries must be received by midnight, Oct. 22. Only one entry per person.

And speaking of Halloween, if you'd like to mix spookiness with science, the Science Museum of Western Virginia's mask-making workshop might be just the thing for you.

During the two-day workshop, you'll get to create your own mask while learning the basics of chemical and physical reactions.

The workshop will be held Saturday and Sunday, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and is suitable for kids 6 years old and older.

Preregistration is required and there is a fee to cover materials and instruction. For information, call Jennifer Hollingsworth-Austin at 342-5727.
