IN SERVICE

PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS FRANK M. GISINER, stepson of Gary J. Nimen of Troutville, has returned from a six-month deployment in the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas aboard the USS John Rodgers.

Gisiner is a 1982 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

During the deployment, Gisiner served in the Adriatic Sea helping to enforce the international sanctions against Bosnia-Herzegovinia.

In February, the ship was awarded the Battle Efficiency Award for the crew's outstanding performance in a wide-range of mission areas.

PVT. MARK A. BURNS, son of Frank M. and Linda Burns of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Burns is a 1994 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

AIRMAN MICHELLE A. GREENE graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Greene is the daughter of Johnny H. and Antoinette W. Greene of Roanoke. She is a 1994 graduate of Northside High School.

MATTHEW B. STRATTON, son of Richard W. and Sharon T. Stratton of Vinton, recently completed an ROTC field training camp at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Stratton, a 1993 graduate of William Byrd High School, is a student at North Carolina State University.

JACK E. GLOVER, son of Jack E. Glover of Vinton, recently attended an Army ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C.

Glover, a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School, is a student at Virginia Military Institute.
