FRANKLIN COUNTY DEFEATS HALIFAX

Gray Hodges threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Franklin County defeated Halifax County 22-13 in a non-district football game Saturday night at Rocky Mount.

Hodges passed for 73 yards as the Eagles amassed 214 yards of total offense.

Franklin County jumped out to a 9-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Travis Kent and a 29-yard field goal by Matt Maxey. Halifax County cut the lead to three on a 27-yard pass from LeVar Medley to Rodney Foy. Just before halftime, the Comets drove 75 yards to Franklin County's 1-yard line. Halifax's William Ballou was stopped for no gain on three rushes and time expired before the Comets could try again.

Franklin County's defense stiffened in the second half, allowing Halifax only six more points on a 21-yard scoring pass from Medley to John Pointer. Franklin County's Eric McEnheimer and Jamie Dunn combined to sack Medley four times.

Dan River 15, Fieldale-Collinsville 12: Phillip Loftis tossed one touchdown pass and ran for another as the Wildcats defeated the Cavaliers in an Piedmont District game in Collinsville.

Loftis tossed a 3-yard pass to Steven Guy and ran 12 yards for another score. He completed 5 of 12 passes for 43 yards.

Fieldale-Collinsville (6-1 overall, 5-1 Piedmont District) got a 2-yard touchdown run from Mancino Craighead and a 14-yard scoring run from Delvin Joyce. The Cavaliers fumbled with six minutes to go, held Dan River (6-1, 5-1) on three downs but could not move the ball after getting it back.

Riverheads 20, Bath County 12: In Staunton, the Gladiators defeated the Chargers in a non district matchup.

Ty Phillips rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries for Riverheads (3-4). Quarterback Joseph Williams passed for two touchdowns and 79 yards.

Bath County started out the season with five straight wins, but has dropped their past two. The Chargers were led by Ivan Franklin who ran for 92 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.

Magna Vista 33, Laurel Park 0: In Ridgeway, the Warriors exploded for 20 points in the second quarter as they routed Laurel Park for a Piedmont District victory.

Jermaine Simmons had 17 carries for 173 yards and four touchdowns for Magna Vista (3-4 overall, 3-3 Piedmont District). Quarterback Chad Blackstock was 3-for-5 for 71 yards and ran 17 yards for a touchdown. The Warriors gained 348 yards of total offense to 111 for Laurel Park (1-6, 1-5).

Parry McCluer 20, Glenvar 14:Sheldon Douglas scored on a short run Saturday at Buena Vista to give Parry McCluer a Pioneer District victory in overtime. Glenvar had tied the game on a 12-yard pass from Corey willis to Kevin Solesbee, who then kicked the extra point.

For the game, Willis hit two touchdown passes. Glenvar lost its third district games in a row and dropped to 2-5 overall.

Parry McCluer (4-3, 2-1) got touchdowns earlier from Nathan Floyd and D.J. Douglas.
