OTHER RACES, ISSUES ON THE BALLOT THIS FALL

This is Virginia's busiest election cycle. All Virginians will vote on members of the General Assembly. But many localities also will elect a variety of local office-holders - from school boards to boards of supervisors to various courthouse officials such as sheriff and commonwealth's attorney. In addition to the General Assembly races, here's what else is on the ballot this fall:

Key:

D Democrat

R Republican

I Independent

* Incumbent

Note: By law, all school board candidates must run as independents

REFERENDUMS

BEDFORD

Consolidation referendum:

Bedford and Bedford County voters are being asked to approve a plan to merge the two localities. The new government would become a city, while the current city would become a "shire."

BEDFORD COUNTY

Consolidation referendum:

Library referendum:

Bedford County voters are being asked to approve a $7.1 million bond issue that would pay for adding 18,000 square feet of library space countywide. It would build new branch libraries in Montvale, which now has no library, as well as Stewartsville, Moneta and Forest, where the library system now leases space. It would also expand the Big Island library.
