BENARD, James G., 80, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 26, 1995. He was a retired employee of T.R.W. Inc., Jamestown, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Lillian Russ Benard. Surviving are two daughters, Judith Rounds of Raleigh, N.C. and Kay Kaplan of Roanoke; grandchildren, Thomas Rounds, Debora Janes, Russ Hancock, Walter Hancock; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Fulton of Clarksburg, Penn.; niece, Barbara Velocci of Buffalo, N.Y. Private interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Alleghany, N.Y. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.
BRYANT, Roy Eugene, 84, of Christiansburg, died Friday, October 27, 1995, in a Radford hospital. Surviving is his wife, Betty Jane Bryant; four daughters, Wanda Harney, Blacksburg, Brenda Lilly, Karen Pearman, both of Christiansburg, Patricia Bailey, Roanoke; three sons, Doug Bryant, Chestertown, Md., Clark Bryant, Moneta, Dennis Bryant, Pulaski; a stepdaughter, Dianne Davis, Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Lura Brammer, Ellette, Oveda Wheeling, Fagg, Norina Dudley, Christiansburg; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Reecedale Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
CANNADAY, Marie Dobbins, 72, of Vinton, died Saturday, October 28, 1995, at her home after an extended illness with cancer. She was born August 6, 1923, to the late Peter Mullin Dobbins and Audrey Whitlock Dobbins Acres, and was raised by the late Omer and Eula Richards Whitlock. She was a member of Paynes Creek Primitive Baptist Church since 1944, and retired from S. H. Heironimus. She was a devoted wife of 46 years to Harry B. Cannaday Sr., who preceded her in death in 1988, and a loving, caring mother of three children, Brenda G. Cannaday, Vinton, Harry B. Cannaday Jr., Morristown, Tenn., Roger D. C annaday, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Amy Keirstead, Steve, Todd, Melissa and Laura Cannaday; one great-grandson, Ty Cannaday; a brother, Peter M. Dobbins, Tallahassee, Fla.; preceased sister, Mrs. Ruth Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, led by Elder Hale Terry. There will be a graveside service at the Cannaday family cemetery in Floyd County immediately following the Oakey's Chapel service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday and Monday evenings, October 29 and 30. COLLINS, Richard Preston, Jr., 1944-1995, passed from this life on Saturday, October 28, 1995, at his sister's home. His twenty years of service with the Department of Defense allowed him great success and happiness as a teacher of Music and Drama in Japan, Korea, and more extensively, in Germany. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Preston Collins, Sr., and his mother, Edna Blevins Collins. He is survived by one brother, the Rev. Danny W. Collins and sister-in-law, Pat, of Rad ford, and two sisters, Mrs. Betty June Addington and brother-in-law, the Rev. Charles, of Bluefield, and Mrs. Joann Logan of Roanoke. Also surviving are two aunts, Mrs. Christene Linkous of Christiansburg and Mrs. Chessie Willis of Lansing, N.C., and one uncle, Dr. Carl Collins of Daleville. He leaves four nieces, four nephews, many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. All who ever met or knew our dear ``Dickie"" have rightly declared his epitaph, ``To know him is to love him!"" He will be greatly missed by his family and friends the world over. In lieu of flowers, the deceased and family request that donations be made to the American Foundation for AIDS Research, 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Second Floor E, Los Angeles, Calif. 90036. Friends may visit at Oakey's North Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, October 30. A family graveside service will be held at a later date in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.

GILMORE, Dessie S., 86, of Roanoke, died Saturday, October 28, 1995. Mrs. Gilmore was a longtime member of Belmont Baptist Church. She was the widow of Emory C. Gilmore. She is survived by a son, Frank L. Gilmore of Richmond; two grandsons, David Gilmore and Rodney Gilmore both of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Jeanette Wise of Roanoke; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 12 noon Monday, October 30, 1995 with the Rev. Dan Duggan officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. HAWKINS, Leona Mary, (``Mamie""), 92, of Salem, died Saturday, October 28, 1995. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, Salem. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie W. Jones Jr. and Ruth of Roanoke; a son, Linwood Earl Jones of Winston-Salem, N.C.; stepdaughters, Shirley Farlow of Asheville, N.C., Edna Cazel of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Alice Stokes of Greenville, N.C.; numerous grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Clarence Cannon of Ayden, N.C.; also, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem, with Dr. R. Elwood White officiating. HOPCROFT, William Theodore, 73, of Radford, passed away Friday, October 27, 1995. He was a reti red Refrigeration and Maintenance man for Service America for 33 years, and was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in WW #2. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Louise Bush Hopcroft; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Mike Farmer of Pearisburg, Barbara and Allen Stoots of Dublin, and Trudy and Tom Eastridge of Radford; two brothers, Norman Hopcroft of Bedford and Charles Hopcroft of Hardy; four sisters, Virgie Brown, Nellie Christian, Annie Payne and Frances Whorley, all of Roanoke, and eight grandchildren, Shannon and Carol Farmer, Kristy and Brian Stoots, Sherry Tallant, Bill, Samantha and David Eastridge. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, with the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger officiating. SPILLAN, Earline M., 77, of Boones Mill, died Saturday, October 28, 1995 in a local hospital as the result of complications following several years of declining health. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Roanoke. Loving survivors include her husband, William F. Spillan of the home; daughter, Kathleen B. Spillan of Hampton; son, Michael W. Spillan of Kansas; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Spillan McRae and John D. McRae of Clemmons, N.C.; grandchildren, Margaret A. McRae and Colin A. McRae of Clemmons, N.C. STASKO, James T. Sr., 64, of Roanoke, died Saturday, October 28, 1995. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict where he had been a Prisoner of War. He had received the P urple Heart and had been a life member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V., serving as chaplain. He was also a member of the American Legion and Ex P.O.W.-M.I.A. Association. Mr. Stasko was a dedicated volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Rose Stasko; his parents, John and Rose Stasko; and a sister, Roseanne Durkit. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, James T. Jr. and Tammie Stasko of Vinton; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tom Acor; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Eva Stasko all of Pittsburgh, Penn.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Richard; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 1995 with the Rev. Fr. Leonty Durkit and Chaplain Cecil Irwin officiating. TOLLEY, Lewis M., 68, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 27, 1995. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, spending most of his time in the Pacific. Mr. Tolley was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel E. and Elwood A. Tolley; a sister, Mildred Wendell; a son, Danny Tolley; and his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Bradshaw Tolley. He was a member of Connelly Memorial Baptist Church and a retired employee of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. He was a dedicated husband and father and will be sadly missed by his daughters and grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Curtis Alphin, Midlothian, Jackie and Holley Halterman, Roanoke, Joanne Tolley Cook, Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Scott Alphin, William Jason Morgan, Natashia Nicole Morgan; sister, Pauline E. YINGLING, Margaret Banks, 93, of Roanoke, died Friday, October 27, 1995, in a local hospital. She was the widow of B. Crawford Banks Sr. and the Rev. William Yingling.
