Sculpture workshop
RINER - Artist Kelly Gotschalk will present a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts workshop titled "Something from Nothing: Mixed Media Sculpture" on Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Auburn High School in Riner. The workshop is sponsored by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.
Gotschalk will discuss the evolution of sculpture in this century and introduce participants to found materials and easy construction techniques. "All art supplies are not available in the art supply store," she says. "The 20th century has witnessed an explosion of new materials that artists have used in innovative ways."

Music degree
RADFORD - Radford University's music department will offer a bachelor of music degree with a concentration in music technology.
Graduates will become composers, performers and consultants in multimedia production, hardware and software development. Computer music facilities in five laboratories will be available in the Center for Music Technology. They are sound synthesis and digital editing labs, a large array of digital musical instruments, a multimedia laboratory, and facilities capable of mastering compact discs.

Outdoor adventures
BLACKSBURG - The Venture Out Program of Virginia Tech invites students, faculty, staff and community members to participate in their outdoor adventures. Trips scheduled for late fall include caving, hiking, and hang gliding.
The program will also sponsor a longer trip canoeing through the Everglades National Park in Florida and a hiking and skiing trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
The Venture Out Program's nonprofit status keeps the cost of the trips to a minimum.

Self-esteem program
CHRISTIANSBURG - Volunteers are needed for "I'm Thumbody," a self-esteem program presented to third-graders in Pulaski and Floyd County schools. The program, sponsored by the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley, helps children develop self-worth.
Volunteer training is Wednesday, 9-11 a.m., at the Pulaski County Public Library and Monday,12:30-2:30 p.m., at Floyd's Jesse Peterman Public Library. Volunteers present a one-hour program to a third grade in their school district.

Immunization clinic
BLACKSBURG - An immunization clinic at Virginia Tech Wednesday will be open to the public.
The clinic will offer flu vaccines for $5, pneumonia shots for an additional $15, and a tetanus-diptheria vaccine for an additional $3.50.
The clinic will be in Old Dominion Ballroom in Squires Student Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is sponsored by the Student Health Service, the New River Health Clinic, and the Student Health Advisory Committee.
