Minter, 39, was killed Sunday in a racing accident at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., where he was competing in the Mid-Atlantic 500 Championship.
Minter's death was the track's first fatality in 30 years, said Caraway owner Russell Hackett.
The accident occurred on the 84th lap, when Minter's car came down a straightway on the half-mile track and hit an outside retaining wall at high speed, authorities said.
Sgt. David McDade, who supervises race track security for the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, said Minter was wearing a helmet, was buckled into his vehicle and had observed other safety precautions.
``It's just an unfortunate thing,'' said McDade, adding the fatal crash had been ruled an accident.
Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today at McKee Chapel.
