Trenton, the capital of New Jersey, is the ECHL's 23rd franchise and the first in New Jersey, which becomes the 12th state represented in the ECHL.
The recently awarded Greenville, S.C., franchise has delayed its ECHL entry until the 1997-98 season. Greenville was slated to begin play next season.
The Trenton franchise will play at the proposed Roebling Complex. The franchise's primary owners are Ronald Berman, chairman and president of TRI Berman Development; Joseph and William Stavola, owners and operators of Stavola Brothers Race Team; and Ken Lozier, a Trenton attorney.
The ECHL is the largest professional hockey league in North America.
ECHL teams are located in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
