NORTHSIDE RIPS ALLEGHANY

Leading by five points at the start of the fourth quarter, Northside outscored Alleghany 27-10 in the final eight minutes to win 59-37 in the Blue Ridge District on Tuesday night at Alleghany.

Northside exploited a defensive gap in the post left when the Mountaineers' center Melissa Page fouled out in the first 15 seconds of the quarter.

Allowed to operate more freely down low in Page's absence, Amy Heath scored eight of her 20 points in the fourth quarter for the Vikings.

Alleghany (10-10 overall, 2-7 district) got 10 points from Natasha Chapman.

Salem 71, Rockbridge County 30: Shellie Johnson scored 19 points as the Spartans ripped the Wildcats in a Blue Ridge District game at Salem.

Salem improved to 15-3 and 8-1.

Salem sophomore Sarah Palmer scored 17.

Tonia Clements scored 14 for Rockbridge County (3-14, 1-8).

James River 55, Bath County 41: Amy Sprinkle, Julie Firebaugh, and Nakia Burrell busted loose offensively and James River broke the Bath County press on the way to the Pioneer District victory on the Knights' floor.

Sprinkle scored 14 of her 16, Firebaugh had nine of her13, and Burrell chipped in 10 of her 13 in the second half as James River (6-13, 6-5) rolled after intermission.

Katie Hardbarger paced the Chargers with 14.
