Survivors include his parents, James E. and Polly Old Beckner, Salem; maternal grandmother, Rena Old; paternal grandmother, Ruby Beckner, both of Salem; one sister, Sheila Beckner, Salem; three brothers, David Beckner, Tony Beckner, both of Roanoke and John Beckner, Durham, N.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, November 3, 1995 in John M. Oakey and Son Salem Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. Stuart Carlton officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
BROWN, Virginia E., 84, of Salem, passed into eternal peace Monday, October 30, 1995, from her home surrounded by her loving family. This beautiful spirit was born in Denison, Texas, April 6, 1911. She settled in Roanoke by way of Bluefield, W.Va. where she met and wed Clarence E. Brown who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her older brother, Ralph C. Eubank of Fort Worth, Texas. She leaves behind daughters and sons-in-law, Norma B. and Randolph C. Waddell, Carole B. and Charles D. Bays, all of Salem; brother, Roland E. Eubank of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Mildred E. Keister of Pearisburg, Doris E. Koehler of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; five grandchildren, Robert D.E. Brown and wife, Sheri of Salem, Vicky L. Brown of Roanoke, Lynne Brown Reynolds and husband, Kevin of Bedford, Rebecca C. Brown of Greensboro, N.C., Elaine Bays Simpson and husband, Lynn of Troutville; seven great-grandchildren. After moving to Salem she began a long and loving relationship with Tabernacle Baptist Church where she taught the T.E.L. Class and served as President of the W.M.U. for many years. She will be deeply missed by friends and family. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 1995, at 12 noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Billy G. White Jr. and the Rev. Charles A. Watkins officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel.
CALVERT, Berla Dudley, 98, formerly of Maiden Lane, S.W., died Monday evening, October 30, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Harvey Calvert Sr., and a son, Dr. William H. Calvert Jr. Mrs. Calvert was a graduate of Radford University and was retired from the Roanoke City Schools, a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and the Harmon Bible Class, The United Methodist Women and had served on the Administrative Board, a former member of Rokeva Women's Club, AAUW. Surviving are her grandsons, William H. Calvert III, Roanoke, Paul L. Calvert, Manassas; great-granddaughters, Nicole and Megan Calvert, Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Calvert, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Dudley, Roanoke. Funeral service s will be conducted at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, 1995 with the Rev. Mrs. Craig was a member of the Roanoke Woman's Club, a former member of Belmont United Methodist Church and was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. She was the widow of E. W. (Dick) Craig and is survived by her daughter, Norma Ree Sisson, Roanoke; her grandsons and their spouses, D. HUMPHREY, Lake Price, 98, of 111 3rd St. N.W., Pulaski, died Tuesday, October 31, 1995 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born April 19, 1897 in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Leffel Price and Jeanette Surface Price. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Alexander Humphrey, and a son, Harry Byrd Humphrey. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lu theran Church, and also an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She received her teaching certificate from Radford Normal School (Radford University), and spent her early years teaching in Tazewell County. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Howard (Jeanette) Yarus Jr., Dahlgren, Va., Mrs. Elaine H. Petersen, Alexandria, Va., Catherine P. Humphrey, Pulaski, Mrs. Theron (Sabra) Rupe, Vienna, Va., Mrs. John (Louise) Deml, Ft. Salonga, N.Y.; one brother, Howard Leffel Price II, Blacksburg; two nephews, Jay Price, Blacksburg, Howard Leffel Price III, Wilkes Barre, Pa.; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Terrie Sternberg, Pastor, and the Rev. John W. McCandlish officiating. LINK, Charles Jasper Sr., Route 2, Evington, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 29, 1995. He was born in Giles County, Virginia on January 12, 1923, a son of the late Charles Omar Link and Vonnie Lake Niday Link. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Jasper Link Jr. He was a retired truck driver and farmer and was the U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign War Post 484, and a life member of Mackenzie Chapter 3 of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Margie Massie Link; two daughter s, Leigh Link Dellis, Huddleston, and Gail Link Hernandez, Thaxton; a son, Ronald H. Link, Thaxton; two brothers, Rudolph Link, Roanoke and Robert Link, Lothian, Md.; a sister, Mildred Link Cannon, Tarbor, N.C.; two aunts, Mary Navy, Bedford and Payne Tingler, Roanoke; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; also two stepsons; two stepdaughters; and eight stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 2, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patrick J. Simon officiating.
