Before the Tech-Syracuse football game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. at Lane Stadium, the Hokies' men's basketball program will conduct its annual Orange-Maroon scrimmage at Cassell Coliseum. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
General admission for the basketball game is $5. The game is not part of the Hokies' season-ticket package. Tech students will be admitted free with ID cards.

Franklin County upset Cave Spring and Patrick Henry defeated Pulaski County in Roanoke Valley District volleyball tournament semifinal games at Pulaski. The Eagles beat the Knights 13-15, 15-12, 15-6 while PH downed Pulaski 15-9, 15-4. Franklin County will face Patrick Henry in the title game today at 7 p.m. at Pulaski.
Glenvar's Trish Nervo will seek her fourth consecutive Region C title Saturday at Galax to end a big week of cross country.
Nervo, who has won four consecutive Metro and Pioneer District crowns, will go after her fourth straight Group A championship next week while finishing an unbeaten high school career.
Two regional boys' and girls' meets are set today with the Region III at Gretna and the Northwest Region being run in Charlottesville.
On Friday, defending Group AA boys' state champion Christiansburg will play host to the Region IV boys' and girls' competition.
Defending men's basketball tournament champion UT-Chattanooga was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Southern Conference in a vote of the league's coaches announced Wednesday.
VMI was picked last in the league's North Division with 15 points.
The Moccasins, members of the South Division, earned 10 first-place votes and 50 points overall to edge Davidson, the pick to win the North Division. Marshall was next with 39 points and three first-place votes and East Tennessee State got the other first-place vote.
Keydets forward Lawrence Gullette was named to the preseason All-Conference team and placed second to Western Carolina's Anquell McCollum in overall votes. McCollum, a senior guard, was picked as the preseason player of the year, as well.
VMI point guard Bobby Prince, a Lord Botetourt High School alumnus, also was picked for the All-Conference team.
The Roanoke Rush of the National Minor League Football makes its playoff debut Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Charlotte Blasts at Victory Stadium.
The Rush, which ended the season winning three of its past four games, has been out of action for two weeks. The team's regular season finale against the Carolina Stars was forfeited by the Stars.
