This month, in a move to encourage mutual understanding and respect between Jews and evangelical Christians, the ADL and the university founded by Robertson will jointly sponsor a seminar on Christianity's Jewish links.
``I have a desire for our students and for the community around us to appreciate the roots we have in Judaism,'' said J. Lyle Story, associate dean of the divinity school at Robertson's Regent University.
``It's easy for us to get fragmented and think of our group that we worship with as being the center of the universe,'' Story said. ``Sometimes we fail to take account of the Jewish community and the history of the people of God through Judaism and then to Christianity.''
Story will teach the four consecutive nights of the seminar, starting Nov. 13, with Rabbi Leon Klenicki, national director of interfaith affairs for the league.
Klenicki said the seminar helps evangelical Christians understand another dimension of Judaism.
