EXPANSION AT ADVANCE

Advance Stores Co. Inc. of Roanoke plans a multimillion-dollar expansion of its distribution center in Roanoke's Center for Industry and Technology.

This is the third and final expansion of the center, according to Nicholas Taubman, chairman of the company, which operates as Advance Auto Parts. He said no more land remains at the site for any further additions.

Taubman said Advance Auto Parts will spend $2.2 million on an addition to the center. Another $4 million will finance remodeling of the existing building and installation of equipment and software.

The addition consists of a 72,000-square-foot building. When the project is completed, Advance Auto Parts will have 442,000 square feet at the site.

Target date for completion is January or February of next year.

When the addition opens, Advance Auto Parts will serve more than 400 retail stores from the Roanoke center.

The regional store distribution center is separate from the company's main headquarters, which is located on Airport Road in Roanoke County.
