TEEN ORDERED HELD UNTIL DEC. HEARING

A judge on Friday ordered a teen-ager charged in the shooting of four high school students to be detained until a hearing on whether he'll be tried as a juvenile or an adult.

Henrico County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge William Boice ordered Edward Spellman, 17, held until the Dec. 7 hearing.

Spellman is charged with four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm in a felony in Monday's shooting at Richmond's John F. Kennedy High School. He surrendered to police Thursday.

Authorities earlier identified him as Edward Briley, but he said Friday his last name was Spellman.

Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Toby Vick wanted to hold Spellman until his next court appearance - in part because he said the boy's life could be in danger.

Although Kennedy is a Richmond public school, Henrico authorities are investigating because the 850-student school is in the county.

The other suspect, 16-year-old Landon Rogers, was arrested Friday in Baltimore, according to Baltimore police spokesman Sam Ringgold.

The teen was arrested without incident inside a home in which police learned Rogers might be found, Ringgold said. The teen-ager was being held pending an extradition hearing.

Henrico Police Chief Henry W. Stanley Jr. said both teen-agers were believed to have fired shots Monday as students left school.

Four students were wounded and one remained hospitalized Friday in stable condition.
