Edwin and Martha Ayers of Roanoke will celebrate their 40th anniversary on November 5, 1995. The celebration was held at Central Baptist Church where they are members and was hosted by son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter and daughter and son-in-law. The couple was married on November 5, 1955, in Moneta, Va. She is the former Martha V. Huff and worked at Roanoke Mills. He is retired from N & W Railway.
DeBord anniversary
Lewis and Virginia DeBord celebrated their 50th anniversary on October 29, 1995. They were married October 29, 1945 in Marion Baptist Church. She's the former Virginia Blankenbeckler. He is retired from the Virginia Medical Center and she is retired from W.T. Grants and from Lerner's. They are members of Bethel Baptist Church.
Johns anniversary
Charles M. Johns, Sr., and Josephine Hurt Johns will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary today, November 5, 1995. They were married November 5, 1930 in Salem, Virginia. They had five children, two sons and three daughters of which one son and one daughter are deceased; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Meadors anniversary
Glee and Hazel (France) Meadors were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 5, 1995. They were married November 14, 1945 in the home of Reverend and Mrs. George Dyer in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Glee is retired from DuPont and Hazel retired from Franklin County Public Schools as a bus driver. Their Open House reception was hosted by their sons and daugh ters-in-law, Larry and Vanessa Meadors and Steve and Vicki Meadors, at the home of Larry and Vanessa Meadors in Ferrum, Virginia. They have two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren: Andrew and Julian Meadors of Rocky Mount, Virginia; Courtney Butler of Greensboro, North Carolina; and Rebecca Whitt of Bloomingdale, Indiana. They are members of the Providence Baptist Church in Henry, Virginia.

Pagans anniversary
William & Audrey Pagans celebrated their 50th anniversary on Oct. 29, 1995. The celebration was held at White Rock Baptist- Reception Hall and was hosted by their children & grandchildren. The couple was married Oct. 27, 1945 in Vinton. They have lived in Hardy for 48 years. Mrs. Pagans is the former Audrey Aileen Smelser. They have two children, Barbara Proctor and Martha Fisher, both of Roanoke. Mr. Pagans is a retired carpenter. Mrs. Pagans is a retired homemaker.
Saunders anniversary
Joseph Spottswood and Florence Updike Saunders celebrated their 50th anniversary on November 4, 1995. The celebration was held at the Salem Civic Center, hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, John and Edie Saunders. The couple was married November 3, 1945 in Thaxton, Va., by the Rev. A.W. Connelly. They have lived in Salem for the past 33 years. She's the former Florence Lukins Updike. They have one son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Edie T. Saunders. He is retired from G.E., and she is retired from Roanoke City Health Dept. They are very active members of Ridgewood Baptist Church.
Wilburn anniversary
In 1945 John Wilburn was coming home from Europe after World War II. He landed in Virginia heading home for Oklahoma. While passing thru Roanoke, he met Mildred Sloan and after a whirlwind courtship they were married November 7. 50 years of wedded bliss is being celebrated at home with children, Sandy, Kenny, Chris, Barry, along with spouses and grandchildren. Mr. Wilburn is retired from Norfolk & Western and Mrs. Wilburn is continuing to cater to all the family needs. Thanks Mom and Dad for being there when we need you.
Wood anniversary
Alonza Odell & Catharine Wood will celebrate their 69th anniversary today, Nov. 5, 1995, with a reception from 3:00-4:30 pm at Belmont Baptist Church. The couple was married Nov. 6, 1926 in Radford, Va. They have lived in Roanoke 69 years. Mrs. Wood is the former Catharine Leona Kelly. They have two children, Gene of Roanoke, and Jack (deceased), two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Wood is retired from Roanoke Ice & Cold Storage. Mrs. Wood is retired from Roanoke City School Cafeteria. They are members of Woodmen of the World and Belmont Baptist Church. Gifts optional.
