PRISON FELLOWSHIP OF VIRGINIA, an evangelical Christian agency that advocates for the families of the incarcerated, is seeking donations to buy Christmas gifts for the children of 200 inmates from the Roanoke Valley.
Joan K. Shannon, a supporter, said the Roanoke Valley youngsters are among 8,000 youngsters in the state who have a parent or guardian who is incarcerated. For more information, call (800) 598-3576, the Richmond headquarters of the agency.
CORRELL MISSIONARY MINISTRIES, a Christian organization based in Roanoke that recruits and trains workers to spread the Gospel worldwide, is sponsoring two promotional events Saturday. ROANOKE VALLEY CATHEDRAL OF PRAISE will dedicate its new building at 8100 Angell Lane on Nov. 19. The Rev. Dr. Robert White, general overseer of the Church of God with headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn., will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service. The pentecostal congregation worshiped in the Williamson Road area for more than 30 years before relocating near Virginia denominational headquarters on Interstate 81.
