NEW RIVER VALLEY'S BEST IN FOOTBALL

So many good high school football players in this area, so few playoff games in which to showcase them.

Giles, Blacksburg, and Christiansburg are already in the playoffs. Pulaski County, Radford and Auburn still have a shot. Narrows, Floyd County and Shawsville will be getting ready to move inside for the winter after tonight.

In the event that you might have missed something, here is one list of the New River Valley's best players this year.

Quarterback: Chris Graham of Shawsville is tall, strong and fearless. He's had to be fearless.

End: Anthony Myers of Giles can catch anything. He's also had a big year at defensive end.

End: Kenny Wojciechowski of Auburn just knows how to play football.

Flanker: Derrick Chapman of Radford is versatile enough to be used on straight running plays.

Running back: Tucker LaForce of Blacksburg is quick of foot and hard of nose.

Running back: Kevin Slusser of Giles has been fabulous despite sitting out last year.

Running back: When Reggie Hoston of Giles comes chugging through, the faint of heart and weak of knee better clear out of the way.

Offensive line: Jay James of Pulaski County can move people.

Offensive line: Bubba Underwood of Radford can be plugged in to equal effect on either side of the line.

Offensive line: Alex Webb of Giles is the cornerstone of one of the best Group A offensive lines you'll ever see.

Offensive line: Jarrod Dalton of Giles stands shoulder to shoulder with Webb.

Center: Sean O'Rourke of Blacksburg has been a stabilizing force on an up-front unit that seems to have been in transition all year.

Punter and place kicker: Put your earplugs on when Shayne Graham of Pulaski County explodes a foot into one.

Special teams: Nick Wohn of Floyd County. As Howard Cosell might have said, ``Look-at-him go!''

On defense:

Noseguard: David Hughes of Auburn gives the term ``low down'' a new meaning.

Defensive line: Matt Hull of Pulaski County is the strong, silent type. He'll also knock the daylights out of you.

Defensive line: Elmo Dunbar of Radford - if you didn't know better, you'd swear he was unfriendly.

Linebacker: Wherever Brandon Steele of Giles goes, large amounts of Ben-Gay follow.

Linebacker : Bud Redden of Radford, a sophomore, still has two more years to get better than he already is.

Linebacker: Kip Kenyon of Blacksburg bench presses 355 pounds and runs a 4.9 40-yard dash.

Linebacker : Michael Davis of Blacksburg is a few pounds shy of Kenyon on the bench press and a step or so slower, but he still has another year of eligibility to catch up.

Defensive back: Jawan Clark of Pulaski County is tough enough to have played some linebacker but DB is where he'll be in college.

Defensive back: Steven Hunt of Blacksburg covers the field like an oil spill.

Defensive back: Tremond Hale of Radford - small body, big hitter.

Defensive back: Scottie Brubeck of Christiansburg has made more tackles in a year than some defensive backs make in a career.
