PARRY MCCLUER ADVANCES TO PIONEER DISTRICT FINAL

Parry McCluer took advantage of some sharp free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter Thursday to defeat Covington 51-45 in the semifinals of the Pioneer District girls' basketball tournament.

The Fighting Blues (13-6) were 7 of 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to edge the Cougars (10-11) and earn a spot in the tournament championship game against Glenvar. Parry McCluer also locked up a Region C tournament berth.

At the end of the third quarter, the score was 32-32. Lindsey Coleman then stepped up for Parry McCluer, scoring eight points and going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final period. Coleman finished with 16 points to lead the Fighting Blues.

Parry McCluer held JoAnn Helton, the district's leading scorer, to 15 points, but Michelle Jeter stepped up for Covington with 20 points.
