NAMES & CHANGES

Resort chief named to regional post

GARY K. ROSENBERG, president and chief operating officer for The Homestead resort in Hot Springs, has been named regional vice president for Club Resorts Inc. He will oversee operations for Quail Hollow Resort & Country Club in Concord, Ohio, in addition to his responsibilities at The Homestead. His office will remain in Hot Springs.

Before joining The Homestead, Rosenberg assessed special projects and business development opportunities for the company throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Bahamas.

BANKING

KAREN EMANUELSON of Roanoke has been named vice president of corporate security for First Union Corp. She has been with First Union's Virginia operations and its predecessor, Dominion Bankshares Corp., since 1979, working in bank card and corporate security.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership has elected officers for 1995-96: CHARLES A. SALDARINI, Roanoke area president of First Union National Bank of Virginia, president; ANNE LEE STEVENS, co-owner of Gearhart-Stevens Realtors, vice president; MACON SAMMONS, Franklin County administrator, secretary; and RANDOLPH SMITH, Salem city manager, treasurer. BETH DOUGHTY continues as executive director. New board members appointed for three-year terms are BRIAN DEVALL, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce; JUDY GRIESENBROCK, Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce; and F. EDWARD HARRIS, Crestar Bank. PHILLIP SPARKS of the Roanoke Office of Economic Development was elected to a one-year term. The partnership is a marketing organization for Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke counties, Roanoke, Salem and Vinton.

The Community Partnership for Revitalization in Rocky Mount has named SUSHEELA SHENDE executive director. She comes to Rocky Mount from Harrisburg, Pa., where she has been deputy director for planning since 1991. She has been a consultant to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and the Erie and Niagara Counties Regional Planning Board. Before that, she was a researcher for the Department of Planning and Design and the Center for Regional Studies, both in Buffalo, N.Y.

HEALTH CARE

NANCY WATERS, administrator of Heritage Hall in Blacksburg, has been elected the 1995 Western District chairperson for the Virginia Health Care Association, a professional and educational organization which represents long-term care facilities.

LIBBY BLANKENSHIP has joined CustomFit in Roanoke as a personal trainer. A former swimming coach, Blankenship is certified as a personal trainer by the Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research and the American Council on Exercise.

INSURANCE

DEBBIE ROBBINS has been appointed an agent with State Farm Insurance Co. in Rocky Mount where she will market and service personal and commercial insurance. Robbins began her career with State Farm in 1984 as a claims specialist. She formerly was a member of State Farm's special disaster team, traveling to policyholders during floods, hurricanes and earthquakes.

MEDICINE

RANES C. CHAKRAVORTY of Salem has been elected to membership in the International Platform Association, which was founded by Daniel Webster and Josiah Holbrook in 1831 for lecturers on current issues. A professor of surgery at the University of Virginia, Chakravorty's interests include cancer treatment and research, history of medicine and peace through global communication.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

LINDA RUSH has joined the Maddox Agency in Roanoke. Her responsibilities include new business and account coordination. Rush's experience includes administrative positions in California and Illinois with Mitsubishi Electronics and Sun Electric Corp.

TRANSPORTATION

RONNIE W. BAIRD has joined the sales staff of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.'s Roanoke service center. Wohlford has eight years of experience in the transportation field. He joined Old Dominion in 1993 as a pickup and delivery driver and was later promoted to district sales representative.

UTILITIES

DANIEL D. SMITH has been named president of Pocahontas Land Corp., a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corp. He succeeds ROBERT L. RAINES, who retired Oct. 31. Smith began his career with Pocahontas in 1976 as a mine inspector. He later became vice president and then general manager in 1993. Pocahontas specializes in leasing coal, natural gas and timber rights from its properties.
