The Virginia Tech Theatre Arts-University Theatre will present a workshop production of "Dora: A Case of Hysteria," Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 13-15.
The free performances will be given in Room 204 of Virginia Tech's Performing Arts Building at 8 p.m.
Branching out from the untouchable image of Sigmund Freud, Canadian playwright Kim Morrissey has created a new perspective of the "Father of Psychoanalysis." Her black comedy is based upon the case study that Freud published in 1905 about a woman he named "Dora," who he was treating for hysteria.
In the play, Dora is given a voice to defend herself against the accusations and assumptions that Freud makes in dealing with her "over-active imagination."
Poetry readings, a panel discussion on Freud and feminism and support to local women's shelters will accompany the production.
