SWARTHMORE STUFFS GENERALS ON SAFETY

Washington and Lee center Stefan Neumeister snapped the ball over the shoulder of quarterback Brooks Fischer and through the end zone for a safety Saturday as Swarthmore beat the Generals 2-0 in a non-conference college football game.

On a day of heavy rain, total yardage for both offenses was 314 yards.

In the second quarter, Washington and Lee (5-3-1) carried the ball to the Swarthmore 13-yard line before turning it over on downs. Swarthmore (5-5) returned an interception to the Generals' 16-yard line, but Washington and Lee's Doug Kennedy had a sack on third down to end the scoring threat.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Generals, who were going for their first unbeaten season at home since 1985.

It was the final game of the season for both teams.
