"I've seen quite a bit of change. Second-graders are expected to know so much more now," said Scott, who teaches at Lee Waid Elementary in Franklin County.
Scott said second-grade pupils read on a higher level, partly because of the availability of more materials and, of course, computers.
One thing that hasn't changed, Scott said, is that children still need guidance and direction from their teacher.
"It's important for me to be there for them when they need me," Scott said.
"Mrs. Scott is nice. I like her because she is challenging," said the pupil who nominated her. "When I grow up, I want to be a great teacher like Mrs. Scott."
Scott, married to a dairy farmer, lives near Boones Mill. She enjoys crafts, sewing and music.
