KING IN SWING AT SENIOR PGA TOUR QUALIFIER

Roanoker Billy King is halfway home in his first qualifying test to win his 1996 Senior PGA Tour playing card.

King fired a 4-under-par 68 on Wednesday to move into third place through 36 holes in a 72-hole regional qualifier at Woodlake Country Club in San Antonio.

King's 36-hole total of even-par 144 leaves him four shots off the lead, but in good shape to keep alive his qualifying hopes. The low 19 players advance from the 144-player San Antonio field to the Senior Tour's final qualifier, which will be held in late December in California.

The low eight players in the California qualifier earn full tour cards for the 1996 Senior PGA season. The next low eight players earn partial exemptions for '96.
