ROBBERS HIT STORE, MOTEL IN ROANOKE

A convenience store and motel in Northeast Roanoke were robbed Tuesday night in apparently unrelated incidents. There were no injuries.

At 9:07 p.m., police said, a woman entered the Friendship Inn at 526 Orange Ave. and handed the clerk a note demanding money from the cash register and safe.

The note threatened to kill the clerk if she did not comply. The robber did not display a weapon.

The clerk handed an undisclosed amount of money to the robber, who fled on foot.

At 9:46 p.m., a man walked into the Save-X Mini Mart at 1708 Williamson Road and asked the clerk for help locating an item, police said.

As the clerk approached the man, he grabbed her around the neck and held an object to her back.

The robber then demanded money and threatened to shoot the clerk if she did not comply. The clerk did not see a weapon.

The robber grabbed money from another clerk in the store and fled on foot.

There had been no arrests in either robbery.
