COVEY, Mary Alice Groseclose, 74, of Radford, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995, in Radford Community Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Radford, and recently retired from the City of Radford as Chief Assistant Voter Registrar. Surviving are her husband, E. Ellis Covey, Radford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Marvin Fowler, Radford, Brenda and G. F. Robeson, Cincinnati, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Marletta Frye, California; one brother, Jack Groseclose, Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Kenny Barrett, Baltimore, Mass., and seven grandchildren, Hash Fowler, Conner Fowler, Ryann Fowler, Buck Robeson, Westin Robeson, Jean Marie Mitchell and Raye Frye. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 1995, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Radford, with the Rev. Gina Rhea officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford. HALL, James Edward, Jr., (``Ed""), 89, of Clifton Forge, died at his home Tuesday, November 14, 1995. Mr. Hall was born April 28, 1906, in Ronceverte, W.Va., the son of the late James Edward and Mary Lowe Hall. He was a retired C&O Railroad official and a former resident of Greenville. Surviving are his wife, Eva Coyner Hall; four children, Keith A. Hall of Roanoke, Ernestine Turner of Jacksonville, Fla., and twin sons, Jerry and Terry Hall, both of Clifton Forge. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Stuart L. Turner of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters-in-law, Kathleen D. Hall and Shirley H. Hall, both of Clifton Forge; 10 grandchildren, Kip Hall and Stephanie Falcon of Harrisonburg, Anita H. Dressler of Roanoke, T. L. Hall of Eden, N.C., Brian and Sara Hall of Lewisburg, W.Va., Jennifer and Frank Turner of Jacksonville, Fla., Lacy and Kassie Hall of Clifton Forge, and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Isaac Hall of Harrisonburg. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Hall; his sister, Mrs. M. A. (Ernestine) Keller Sr., and two brothers, Frederick H. Hall Sr. and Calvin D. Hall. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. John Carrier officiating. BLACKBURN, Mary Francies (Lewis), of 100 Lig hthorse Lane, Waynesboro, died early Wednesday morning, November 15, 1995 at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. She was born in Lexington, Va., a daughter of the late Richard M. and Mattie Barger Lewis. She was retired, having worked for the former General Electric Co. in Waynesboro, and the James Lee's Carpet Company of Glasgow. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Staunton. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include a close friend, James V. Loughran, Jr., Waynesboro; a special niece, Brenda G. Ayers, Salem, as well as a number of other nieces and nephews. Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Waynesboro Chapel of Etter-Reynolds Funeral Service, 618 W. Main Street, by Father John A. Abe. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home or the residence. CARRINGTON, Rev. James Jr., 58, of Roanoke, moved across the river to be with the Lord on Monday, November 13, 1995. He was the Pastor of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Bedford County, and the Bold Branch Baptist Church in Stoney Mt. Funeral services will be Friday 1 p.m. at the Poplar Spring Baptist Church, Bedford. The Rev. Lorenza S. Otey will officiate with the interment in the church cemetery. FIREBAUGH, Nelson Edward, 79, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995 at his home. He was born in Roanoke County, the son of the late Charlton Baker Firebaugh and Pearl Bush Firebaugh Briggs. He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Ruby Manning Firebaugh. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Barry N. Sr. and Nancy Firebaugh, Abingdon; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Eugene Hurst Jr., Richlands; grandchildren, Barry N. Jr. and Robin Firebaugh, Marion, Tamrya L. Firebaugh, Marion, Gregory H. and Diane C. Hurst, Richlands, Jeffrey N. Hurst, Richlands, Jill E. Hurst, Richlands; two great-grandchildren, Brett N. Firebaugh and Brett Harmon both of Marion; two brothers, C. J. Firebaugh, Elliston, Sherman L. Firebaugh, Roanoke; two sisters, Christine Massey, Dorothy Adams both of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Firebaugh was a long time member of the First Church of the Brethren, Roanoke, where he served as Deacon, Head Usher, Teacher, and member of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class. He was the former owner of Clement Brokerage Company in Roanoke and a past president of the Roanoke Valley GMRA. Mr. Firebaugh was a charter member of the Edgewood Lions Club, a past District Governor of 24-E, and recently named a Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions International. GRAY, Charles W. 88, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Shafer Gray. HEWITT, Joyce Hooper, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995. She was born February 1, 1927 in Bradenton, Fla. She was educated in Florida and Massachusetts, elected National Honor Society from Glouster High School, Glouster, Mass. in 1941. She graduated from Goucher College in 1948. She was a member of the Junior League of Roanoke, and worked extensively in the Children's Theater. She served on board of ``Voice of the Blue Ridge'' and read for the blind. She is survived by her husband, Henry S. Hewitt, Roanoke; daughter, Joyce H. George, Rocky Mount; son, Henry S. Hewitt, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Colleen S. Hewitt, Old Church, Va.; three grandchildren, Eddie Charles George, Jr., Anna Ruby George, Rocky Mount; Samuel S. Hewitt, Old Church. Memorial service will be Friday, November 17, 1995 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church. HYLTON, Roy Lee, 79, of Salem passed away Tuesday, November 14,1995 in a local hospital. He was an army Veteran of World War II, a retired employee of General Electric in Salem and a member of the B.P.O.E. #197 Elks Club. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Theresia K. Hylton, Salem; sister, Mary Vivian Radford, Roanoke; brother, George W. JONES, Richard Jr., 59, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, Va., departed this life, Saturday, November 4, 1995 in Columbus, Ohio, where he and his wife, Darlene made their home for several years. He was the fourth child of the late Richard and Caroline Jones. He leaves to mourn his wife, Darlene Jones; three sons, Richard Alden, Stephan; three daughters, Caroline, Olivia, and Angel; five grandchildren; two brothers, Douglas (Edith) Jones, Dexter (Candy) Jones; two sisters, Charlene (Otis) Hughes, Lula M. Brown; ten nephews; sixteen great-nephews; nine nieces; and three great-nieces; a host of friends and other relatives. Funeral was 11 a.m. November 11, 1995, C.D. JONES, Ruth Ferrell, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dennis M. Ferrell and John A. Jones Sr.; her parents, Emmett and Ollie Warden Manley; brothers, Emmett Manley, Marvin Manley; and a sister, Ailese Layne. Mrs. Jones was a 58 year member of Melrose Baptist Church. She served as president of the Lady's Auxillary of the Veterans of WW I, and president of the State of Va. Auxillary, and was a member of the National Presidents Club. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Martha Ferrell, Roanoke; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Martha and Bill Conway, Toronto, Canada; stepson and daughter-in-law, Jack and Mitzie Jones, Berkley Heights, N.J.; granddaughters, Donna Wheeler and husband, David, Charlotte, N.C., Sherry Crickenberger and husband, Charles, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Virginia Manley, Shawsville. McFADDEN, Henry Bernard (``Bernie'') Sr., 89, of Richmond, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday, November 14, 1995. He was born March 20, 1906 at Hot Springs, a son of the late Henry Edward McFadden and Mary Susan Johnson McFadden. Mr. McFadden was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Covington and the Tom Young Bible Class. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Blanch Wells McFadden in 1987, and one sister, Ruth Irene McFadden in 1984. He is survived by two daughters, Ilene M. Penland of Richmond, Regena M. Young, Midlothian; one son, H. B. McFadden, Jr. of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Robert E. McFadden, Danville, Andrew Penland, Ashland, Renee Penland, Richmond, Alexander P. MOORE, Estelle Ragsdale, 95, of the Roanoke United Methodist Home, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995, at her home. Formerly of Stuart, she was a native of Pittsylvania County. Born March 17, 1900, she was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh Ragsdale and the late Edna Easley Ragsdale. She was the widow of J. Rucker Moore, who died in 1961. She was a former school teacher and librarian, and retired from The Enterprise newspaper in Stuart. She was a member of the Stuart United Methodist Church since 1911. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Beatrice W. Ragsdale of Roanoke; two nieces, Janet Stargell of Scottsville and Virginia Stamy of Howell, Mich.; one special great-niece, Genna Stargell of Scottsville, and a number of other great-nieces and great-nephews living in Michigan. She was also called ``Aunt Stelle"" by her extended family, the Weaver family of Roanoke, Richmond and Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Howell Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, with the Rev. Robert Chapman, chaplain of the Roanoke United Methodist Home, officiating. POFF, James Cabble, (``Jimmy""), 76, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995 at his home. Born in Roanoke County, Virginia on July 29, 1919, h e was the son of the late Daniel and Dolly Graham Poff. He was a retired automobile mechanic with Hercules, Inc., with 25 years service. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ora Albert. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Morehead Poff; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby (Buddy) and Frances Poff, and J.C. and Sharon Poff all of Christiansburg, Terry M. Smith, Blacksburg; three sisters, Mary Daley, Bristol, Lucy Smith, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Myrtle Williams, Christiansburg; one brother, George Calvin Poff, Apoka, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. PRATT, James Douglas ``J.D."", 69, of St. Augustine, Florida passed away November 13, 1995 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida following surgery. He was born in Jenkins, Kentucky, and later resided in Roanoke, Virginia and Alexandria, Virginia. He had lived in St. Augustine for the past five years. He had been employed with the Hercules Powder Company of Radford, Virginia, and had over thirty years of service with Piedmont Airlines. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having been stationed at Daytona Beach Naval Air Station during World War II, attached to the crash crew. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Pratt is survived by his wife, Mildred Crowder Pratt of St. Augustine; one daughter, Kimberley Anne Buckler and her husband, Andrew T. Buckler III, Waldorf, Maryland; one son, Michael Allen Pratt of Burke, Virginia; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Rice of Harriman, Tennessee, Eloise P. Neel and her husband, J.B. Neel, Napiervilla, Illinois, and Sammy J. Evans and her husband, Jack Evans, California, Maryland; two grandchildren, David Andrew Buckler and Benjamin Daniel Buckler, Waldorf, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Eloise C. Purdue, Roanoke; and a brother-in-heart, Donald G. Sutphin, Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria. RINGGOLD, William M., ""Bill"", 71, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, November 14, 1995. Born April 26, 1924, he was the son of the late George and Ethel Martin Ringgold. Mr. Ringgold retired from Western Electric and was a former employee of AT-PAC and Lorraine. He served with the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy during WW II, and was a member of the AT&T Retirees Group. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Swain Ringgold; daughters and son-in-law, Pamela R. and Mikel Beckner, Wirtz, Angela D. Gordon, Norfolk; son and daughter-in-law, William Maurice and Roberta Ringgold, Grafton, Va.; five grandchildren, Ashley Beckner, Joshua Gordon, Barbara Beckner, Christopher Gordon, Heidi Ringgold; sisters and brother-in-law, Doris Wills, Roanoke, Mildred and Ernest Bernard, Vinton; and several nieces and nephews. ROSENBAUM, Sidney Dale, 68, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, November 15, 1995 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was a member and trustee of the United Lutheran Church, where he was in the Choir and former council member. He was also a member of the Wytheville Moose Lodge, Grover King Post #1115 VFW and American Legion Post #9, and a prominent merchant in Wythe Co. for 35 years. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Robinson Rosebaum. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Jonas Rosebaum of the home; two daughters and son-in-law and fiancee, Kimley and Danny Frye of Wytheville, Lori Brown and Douglas Haffly of Augusta, Ga.; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Jackie Rosenbaum of Christiansburg; four sisters, Juanita Huddle of Axton, Va., Irene Clippard of Martinsville, Dollie Williams of Wytheville, Mae Rosebaum of Rt. 3, Wytheville; four brothers, Richard Rosebaum, Damon Rosenbaum, Bill Rosenbaum and Pat Rosenbaum all of Wytheville; mother, Anna Mae Sutliffe Rosenbaum of Rt. 3, Wytheville; seven grandchildren, Lisa Rosenbaum, Alan Dale Rosenbaum, Jason Brown, Stephanie Rosenbaum, Cody Brown, Joshua Rosenbuam, Carley Frye; two stepgrandchildren, Shellie Montgomery and Shannon Montgomery. SANDERLIN, Elizabeth Sivills, 89, of Kitty Hawk, N.C., died Sunday, November 12, 1995, at The Hermitage of Richmond. Mrs. Sanderlin was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. , but lived in Kitty Hawk for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sanderlin was the daughter of the late Thomas Boushel and Elizabeth Dryden Sivills and the wife of the late Oscar C. Sanderlin. Surviving are three daughters, Susan S. Antoniewicz of Austin, Texas, Rosemary S. Ferguson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Corinne S. Coffey of Richmond; a son, Thomas W. Sanderlin of Naples, Fla.; four sisters; two brothers, and seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 17, 1995, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church by the Rev. Brad Bradshaw, with burial following in the Austin Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, N.C., is handling arrangements.
