Master Gardeners

BLACKSBURG - Master Gardener training classes will be offered from Jan. 30 through April 25 on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Classes are taught by specialists in botany, soils, composting, vegetables, fruits, perennials, water gardening, plant pathology, pesticide safety, landscape, planning, and pruning at Virginia Tech, room 409, Saunders Hall.

Call the Montgomery County Cooperative Extension office at 382-5790 for an application. The deadline for applications is Thursday, Dec. 7.

Neighborhood meeting

CHRISTIANSBURG - Friends of Christiansburg will host a public informational meeting, "How to form a neighborhood partnership," Thursday, Nov. 30, for citizens of Christiansburg and Montgomery County. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. Neighborhood groups deal with issues such as responsible growth, crime watch, traffic, visual enhancement and other school and community issues.

Mariam Alam, partnership coordinator for the City of Roanoke Neighborhood Partnership, will be the guest speaker.

Blacksburg parade

BLACKSBURG - The town is seeking participants for the annual Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m.

The theme is "Memories of Christmas." Participants must register by Nov. 22. There is no fee for entering.

WTOB programs

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech professor Marshall Fishwick lectures about Robert E. Lee's activities after the Civil War during WTOB-Channel 2's broadcast of the annual Civil War Weekend at Virginia Tech. The program irs Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 8:10 p.m., James Robertson explores the various torture methods that passed for medicine during the Civil War.

Other programs include "African and African-American Folk Tales," stories told by Mama Nahlu from Africa for children, Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.

Festival of Trees

CHRISTIANSBURG - "Christmas Around the World" is the theme for the Festival of Trees sponsored by the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The event continues through Thursday, Dec. 21, at New River Valley Mall Center Court.

The festival will feature 12 live trees decorated by local organizations and schools in keeping with the theme.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 1, raffle prizes will be offered daily. Proceeds will support community programs of the American Red Cross.

Stork Exchange

RADFORD - The Stork Exchange lends maternity and baby clothes to those in need. Baby clothes are available in sizes 0 to 2 years. Equipment for infant care is also available.

The Stork Exchange is at 1125 Norwood St., Radford and is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m.
