A planned union election was postponed Thursday at MascoTech Body System and Assembly in Salem because the partial shutdown of the federal government meant no official from the National Labor Relations Board was available to conduct it.
The vote will be rescheduled after furloughed federal workers return to work. About 110 MascoTech workers will decide whether to be represented by the United Auto Workers.

Towne Square gets a Corral
Construction has begun on a Golden Corral restaurant in the Towne Square Shopping Center in front of Sam's Club. The franchised restaurant is owned and operated by Good Good Inc. of Martinsville. The restaurant, which is scheduled to open in February or March, will seat 450 customers and employ 150.

ETS contracts for pipe project
ETS Water and Waste Management Inc., a Richmond-based subsidiary of ETS International Inc. of Roanoke, has contracted with the Fairfax County Department of Public Works to install concrete pipe and sanitary sewer lines. The project, serving 22 homes in the Fort Hunt area of Fairfax County, will be performed Nov. 27-29.
