CARROLL COUNTY FALLS

Grundy used two big runs in the first half to open a 22-point lead and defeat Carroll County 65-50 in a Region IV girls' basketball semifinal game at Grundy.

Grundy (16-6) will host Blacksburg on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Region IV championship. Both teams will advance to the Group AA tournament next week.

The Golden Wave went on a 10-0 run and an 11-2 run in the first half to break out to a 33-11 lead. Grundy was led by Leigh Farmer, who scored a game-high 18 points. Ashley Mullins added 13 and Shauna Hurley had 11.

Jennifer Watkins led Carroll County (16-9) with 17 points.
