MOCK CIVIL WAR IS TODAY

A student's idea for a class project will be played out as full-fledged Civil War re-enactment today at Ferrum College.

The re-enactment - complete with horses, cannons, rifles and period uniforms - will demonstrate a Civil War battle from 11:30 a.m. till noon. It will take place between Swartz Gymnasium and Grousbeck Hall.

The project was the idea of history major Lisa Swain of Bassett, whose cousin is a Civil War re-enactor with the 2nd Virginia Cavalry and Artillery Unit.

The re-enactment is part of an American Civil War history class taught by Ferrum Professor Bud Skeens.

Skeens hopes the event will turn into an annual affair.

The public is invited to attend the free event. For more information, call Ferrum College at (540) 365-4300.
